Please Help!
 

hey guys i'm new to this forum, i'm about ready to purchase a 85 rx7 for $200, body is in great shape and interior is decent...but the catch is that there is a broken oil line. It goes from the front corner of the driver side of the engine and runs back down the side toward the firewall. how can i fix this..and were to get a new line, and how hard to fix?? Thanks alot Adam

Welcometo the dark side!Take a picture if you can. Where in kc are you? I got my oil lines redone at a hydraulic shop and have had no problems with it.

well unfortunatly i can't take a pic cause its my buddies house, i live right by I-29 and 152 intersection. if you had a picture of the front driver side of the engine i can point it out. how much did it cost?? thanks alot

It is really not hard at all to fix,that is a pressure line for the oil cooler,goes from the front cover to the back of the "beehive" oil cooler right? I would have to know exactly where the leak was on the line to give you a "el-cheapo" fix idea,if it is on a fitting to the mounting surface it might just be missing the washer/seal ring for it. Give me some more info and I'll get back to-ya.

yeah i believe its that line, its on the driver side all the way up front, and at the the bottom part of the case. and the leak is about a inch from the fitting to the case...and its gashed open like it got hit with a screw driver. thanks

It is possible to weld it shut,i had a weird little issue with the same line and ended up welding it with my MIG and it worked great,it will be pretty delicate work but is a real cheap long lasting fix.If at all possible,since it is so close to one of the openings,put a copper pipe/tube/anything copper you can inside to have a barrier for it so it wont seal the tube shut since it wont stick to copper it will only be sealing the the area you need.

well i'm not the best welder and wouldn't trust myself doing something like that, and other easy fixes? or how hard is it to swap the actual line

Easy to swap in my opinion,its just 2 bolts,the rear can be a pain(23 or 24mm,dont remember) try to do it after it is warmed up if you can run it,or just tap/punch on the wrench to crack it loose rather than just pulling to death,the front has 2 bolts to it, the inner one you hold still with a wrench while the outer you undo.

Weld it, no. 2 bolts, no. The rear of line is held by a banjo bolt, the front by a compression fitting and adapter, along with 2 different sized of crush washers, which must be replaced.

Down near the bottom "83-85 12A Steel Oil Cooler Line" - $131

I totally messed mine up when I was replacing my beehive and had to get one from another forum member. Be *very* careful when taking them off and remember to use *two wrenches* on the connection at the front of the engine. One to hold the fitting in place, one to turn the nut.
