Place to buy Syncros
 

Anyone know a place that will sell me just the syncros for a transmission? Most places I have called only want to sell me an entire rebuild kit (gaskets, syncros and all the bearings) but I only need the syncros and gaskets really. They seem to run about $116.

Mazda wants as much for 3 syncros as an entire high quality rebuild kit. If I have to I will just buy the full kit or find a new transmission.

if you're in there .. why not rebuild the whole thing? probably better in the long run anyways

download your own copy of the parts fiche and call the dealer with the applicable part numbers.

They are 40 each from the dealership. I want to replace at least 1 - 3 and 4 as well since I will have the stacks apart. Thats 160 right there. Might as well get a full kit at that point.

The full kit, below, suggests getting additional parts, such as nuts, wires, bushings. From experience, which of these should be purchased new and what can be re-used? What else is need that isn't on this list?

DTSBKXXXWS Kits (RWD): Main case bearings, gaskets, seals. You may also want to add bearing retainer, nuts, dogs & wires, extension housing bushing, small parts kit, shifter bushings. Syncro rings are included in these kits.


Also, is anyone selling completely rebuilt 12A transmissions, by chance.

Thanks Addict!! Same kit on ebay @ $163 so unless these guys really jamb me up for shipping (a fav pastime to we living in Alaska), I will pull the trigger. Perfect timing :)

For the 84 GSL-SE, you would probably get one of the S4 ('86-'88) kits as the GSL-SE and FC NA trans are almost identical. I would give them a call and see what they say before ordering, though.

I have not bought from them before, but I have a friend with a couple transmissions that need a rebuild and maybe we'll get one of these kits and give it a go. I do know that you need a large bearing puller to remove a couple of the bearings and then the new ones get pressed back on. If you don't have the tools, you could take the tranny apart most of the way, take it to a shop and have them pop off the old bearings, then you could rebuild and have the shop put the new ones back on.

Ya, the hardest part of the whole thing was the bearing pulling. I took it over to a local machine shop and the guys did it for me for a few dollars. I was able to put the new one on with a drift and some very light hammer work.
