Pix of dual exhaust on a 1st gen 7
I was just talking cars with another late 30's friend of mine and the subject came up.
Does anyone have pix of the dual muffler setup on the 1st gen? Sonic Turbo w/ rolled tips anyone? |
Yeah, there is. Unless you mean both mufflers on the same side. In which case, there are a few people running such a setup on here.
|
yeah there are a few on the forum running this set up...Could run 3 inch single all the way back... or 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 dual pipes with no cats and get the full performance of the exhaust with those dual mufflers on the back...his or her call

like this?

yeah like that...sounds pretty nice might i add
|
I believe Wackyracer is running this "old skool" setup on his Rx3 with Magnaflow's...
|
single belt... rev... no squeal? Is it because you're running elec. fan?
|
A belt that is properly tightened.... singe or double belt setups shouldn't squeal. The only ones that should are Gilmer's...but that's more a whine that a squeal. Stock or electric fan...
|
wacky is running that set up...
|
you could run duals all the back and over the axle into a single magnaflow with dual inlet and dual exit.

I have my belt pretty tight... and it squeals anytime I rev, or even accelerate hard in 1st / 2nd. I'm planning on going double belt sometime soon.
Try some belt dressing, it makes my belt grab the supercharger pulley like glue. |
85rotarypower has some but he has a different gas tank
go to 5:05 mark to see on video http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=gKvzxSPLfSo |

Yeah, I've been running a single Gatorback with no squealing at all. No airpump, no AC, no power steering, and no e-fan.
|
The Cosmo is the same way. Its power steering belt is the same as 1st gens so has no contact on the waterpump pulley. No slips with a stock clutch fan.
|
This is my setup:
Homemade header -> 2.5" Resonator -> Split into two 2" Resonators side by side. I like it alot, nice and quiet The smoke in the video turned out to not be oil control rings, but the crappy teflon encapsuled viton water seals that had failed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkip2LsjDJo |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJhcqB0vBQI That is my car. That is the old engine. It spun a bearing in the front rotor. It now has a fresh rebuild and is ready to go. It has dual 2" pipe till just before the axle (couple of magnaflow resinators under there) into a 3" pipe up and over the axle then it splits again into dual mufflers. |

Belt dressing only masks the problem. You need to replace the belt
I run a gatorback belt which grabs well, but i still use dressing when I race as I do notice a difference in how quick the charger reacts. |

I'll change the belt and see how it works. I'll try the gatorback everyone raves about.
If it don't work I'm gonna come back and beat you guys up! :D Sorry for the off-topic. |
Back in '90, my original SE exhaust, made for $100 at Atlantic muffler, was dual 2" piping from an RB Road Race header, 2.25" glasspacks, and dual side by side Dynomax!. It was quiet enough and made great power....we may need to look into that old un-collected system again now with better mufflers!
|
yup...side stacked sonic turbo mufflers on a 1st gen was the shizzle....Wacky post some pics!
|
I want to run just 1 muffler right after the header collector and shoot the tailpipe on the side before the rear tire.what muffler is compact, good sounding, won't burn out,and could get at a local parts store??will this setup work??
