Petcock fuel shut off valve
 

So since my carb is flooding ( in a very specific way , not when cold, not when hot, but in between) I figured I'd buy a temporary fule shut off switch that I could turn on and off when i get out of my car and go do quick trips to the store. I saw one that is solenoid operated where it shuts on and off with vacuum pressure. I was wondering if this would work if I hooked it up to one of the carbs vacuum lines ( i don't have a rats nest any more) or if it wouldn't because the solenoid only works when the engine is on and thus I would never get fule when cold. Is this even a good idea? I'm trying to save money, the carb will get fixed in due time but this car has become my daily and my method of starting it by cranking until the engine eats the gas causes it to smoke like a MF for 10 mins

Vacuum increases with load, so there's that.... Carb kit is only 120 bucks.

A rebuild kit for a 79 rx7 from RockAuto is only 36 dollars. The amount of effort it would take for what is essentially a bandaid and not an actual fix... I'd just go with a rebuild.

The kit is STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS 1401, which I believe is the parent company of Hygrade. These are believed to be the best kits around for these carbs.

If the flooding is a carb problem and not a fuel pump issue or some other issue, you'll be very pleased with the improvement a proper rebuild can do.
