Pesky windshield trim..
Quite a few people have mentioned the whole windshield trim issue of the black rubbing off and the silver underneath showing... my car is already silver and I want to keep the trim black, so does anyone know how to get them looking good again?
I got them off with minimal damage to the clips behind them, so I'll be fine when it's time for reinstallation. But now, how should I go about makin them look good again? (My guess: Sandpaper and some high quality spraypaint, maybe even engine paint, that stuff never gives up.) |
Can you take a picture of the windshield area with the trim off? And could you point out where the clips are and what you used to get the trim off?

Sure thing, I'll go do that. But, so you know, "I got them off with minimal damage to the clips" is my way of saying that I broke one of the three clips on each side. But it's better than breaking all three.

Painting chrome is never a good idea. I don't know what Mazda was thinking. Rough it up and spray it. You'll get better results if you use a primer and then paint than if you used a black spray can.

I believe automotive paint shops sell chrome paint. From what I've heard, that chrome paint stuff will stick to anything, period. I too, don't know what Mazda was thinking...

damn, the previous owner had the car painted and i thought it was the shop that did that. does anyone know how to get the black off? or will it look too cheesy?
|
Yeah, mine is coming off too. I don't care if it stays black or looks chrome. I just want it ONE color.

Keep up updated, I'm eventually gonna have to redo mine. I'm afraid that when I pull them off I'll end up breaking the clips and have to buy new pieces :(
