Periphrial Port 13B?
So I was thinking of making my 81 Rx7 GSL and putting a PP 13B into it.
Has anyone done this? Does anyone know generally what it would cost for a good rebuild? ------------------------ I've got an 81 GSL, It's completly stripped of interior, and useless engine bay crap. I use the car for daily driving, autocrossing, and dragging. So, The car is very light, and with a 13B PP motor, I woudl assume I coudl get assloads of torque/power out of it. Just curious as to what your all's input on this kind of setup woudl be. Wondering if I should use Dual Webers, or just like a single 48mm, or a 52mm... |

Thats for everything though, Engine build, Carb, Intake, Exhaust.......... Can it be done Under $4,000.00?

I dun think $4,000 is gonna be enough remember you'll have to lock the rotors, balance the rotating mass, the rotor housings will either have to be made or MFR housings bought and you'll need a kit to build it. IF you can do the engine build yourself and you cut a few corners you might get the engine done for that.

4 grand MIGHT get you a "budget" pp(engine only)...... if there is such a thing :rlaugh:

Racing Beat has peripheral port rotor housings for turbo and nonturbo applications along with many other parts you would probably need if you are looking for all upgraded parts. As for pricing you will have to look yourself.

Peripheral Ports do not need to be all that expensive. They are remarkably easy to make if you have the right equipment and some know-how. Here's a thread on this very subject:

Yes I've read about Scalliwag's work, it seems good. It would definitely be a lot cheaper than buying pport housings from like Racing Beat or something, but the only potential problem I'm seeing is how well they stand up and if any issues will arise. I don't think he's been doing it long enough to know for sure, though in theory they seem fine.

I have alot of things on my car he has made, and I totally vouch for his quality. HE hasn't been making the p-port housings for long, but has been a machinist for years. |
Peripheral ports are just a little harder to build than street/bridge ports but where the hell are you going to drive it? As I understand it- Peripheral ports are exclusively race engines - not to be domesticated for the street.

I have seen one, with a smaller endurance racing size intake ports last 40 hours on carbon apex seals; road racing in Southern California. Typically shifted @ 8800rpms but did take it up to 9400 sometimes. |

Last I checked, Mazdatrix was building P-ports on special-order basis for around $8K.
I am sure they can be done cheaper, but here is an engine where you wouldn't want to cut any corners. For someone like Blake, a p-port has proven to be successful, You may want to consider things. I am sure for yoru $4K budget you can get alot more bag for your buck. |
here's my 13-B P-Port, using GSL-SE housings, which will be going in the RX-3. The housing will be polished once its done. Im using carbon apex. Due to other obligations, I havent been driving the RX-3 and FB, so P-Port it will be.

yeah im with Blake. PPorts are totally streetable if you dont mind pissing off your neighbors and the po-pos. My dads PPort lasted him 4years and he drove it everyday to work and back.
