overheating exhaust system light
I was giving a friend of mine a ride and showing him what the car had for balls. When i noticed that the overheating exhaust light had come on. Now it wasn't on when i was driving nice but it came on when the RPM's get a bit higher. It's done it twice out of countless high revs. Can anyone tell me the potential problem

clogged cats. iirc the sensor is located right below the passenger seat.
|
the cat has been removed

still have the heatshields? what is your exhaust setup?
|
per searching "exhaust overheat":
"check the braided wire that comes off of the exhaust pipe and attaches to the floor pan. This wire sends a signal to the sensor that's bolted to floor pan under the passenger seat. If the braided wire is broken, that may be your problem." - trochoid also said that if you have removed your cat, the sensor is useless. Check the timing too. |
awsome thanks i'll have to look into that
|
no problem. good luck!

If your timing or fuel mixture is really off your exhaust can get really hot (even glowing) at the header or manifold causing this sensor to go off.

'84-'85 have a braided wire. Earlier have a sensor in the floor above the cat.
