Overheating:((((
Hey guys....just rebuilt the carb and im in the process of tuning it and such........i was following Sterling's site on tuning the idle and mixtur screws, but as i was doing this...i noticed that it stared running really hot....so i shut her down and i thought to ask you guys.....
Would too lean of a mixture cause overheating??? My top rad hose was really hot also... I have removed the air pump and the water pump is only running on one alt belt....but i have not revved it past 3K, so no slipping has happened. |
No. Something else is causing overheating.

Pull the leading spark plugs and check them for color. Running too lean usually leads to the exhaust running hot, not the engine. Did you burp the cooling system?
|
Is your thermostat stuck shut? Is your fan running?
|
well.....what kind of symptoms would i see with a stuck thermo......the temp gage would indicate that im running hot when actually im not??....cause im pretty sure that i am
And what does burping the system mean?? run the car and pop the cap off and let the air out?? The system needs a good flush anyways.....anything that you guys can suggest i run in my cooling system....i live in Canada remember;) Thanks for the replies guys:D |
Burping the system is simply runing the engine with the radiator cap off and refilling as needed. Running lean shows up as a very hot exhaust manifold, i.e., glowing headers. A thermostat stuck closed shows as a hot engine, cool radiator.
While it's possible the fuel mixture is lean, it sounds like the cooling system needs addressed. |
I will burb the system tomorrow.......and my top rad hose was super HOT....so a thermo seems unlikely to me
Is there a good mix of coolant that you guys can recommend, since i live in Canada and all.....water wetter any good to add to the system?? I have already ordered a new water pump from my local dealer....its only $35 anyways;) |
Burp it when it is cold!
and a 50/50 of coolant and DISTILLED water would be good. I have seen people fill their RX7's with faucet water, I went home and cried/prayed for their housings. |
Could be a bad fan clutch.
|
I found the problem.....i was running way too lean and my headers were getting really hot. Good thing i noticed before they got red.....
Reajusted the mixture according the Sterling's guide and voila. Thanks guys |
