Drain all the fuel, tank, lines etc, add new fuel and run it through the system, put some MMO into spark plug holes, new fuel filter after draining etc. Start her up, ignore the smoke...lol, when the smoke stops, change your plugs and she should be good, the only problem I forsee is a carb problem from dried out gaskets etc.

NittoRacing 11-16-05 07:48 PM

good..... what about the rotor ... would that be a probleme ... the fuel filling rod is pretty rusted to ...!

aussiesmg 11-16-05 07:51 PM

The MMO should adequately lube your engine and free up your seals and springs. The fuel filling rod, do you mean the fuel filler?

NittoRacing 11-16-05 08:00 PM

no i mean the oil filling rod .. where your put the oil in sorry

Well an oil change should be early on your list so when you do it wipe down the tube (MMO) and anything that falls in will be drained in the oil. Rotary engines create a lot of condensation which accumilates on the tube, this is why it has rusted. If its rusted through replace immediately.

That's fairly common. Don't worry too much about it for now...

SparkienSuggah 11-16-05 08:49 PM

yea, the important thing is to change the oil, and then feed the beastie oil RIGHt into those rotor housings... give it slow spins by hand and then use the starter to build oil pressure.. then let it fire up on the fresh gas/filters (oil/air)/oil

i personally attached mine to a running car and cranked until the OMP lines to the carb were primed, but i was paranoid about blowing the motor.

man, you are FINE!!! i just recently pulled an engine from an 83 rx7 that hadn't been cranked in 10 years!!!!!!!! TEN YEARS!!! pulled it, slapped a turbo on it, fired right the fuck up. I LOVE THESE CARS!!!!

BMS2004 11-17-05 01:38 PM

don't forget that if the carb seals get brittle, so can the housing water rings. Thats what happened to mine. But no way to remedy that just start and cross your fingers for awhile. Mine unfortunately went out 300 miles after getting the car that sat

mine had been sitting for at least a year when i bought it, maybe two or more.

Long enough for the carby gaskits to be stuffed. Used to smoke a bit back then.

A few services later and I haven't seen a puff of smoke. I've put 11 000 kilometers on it since and its still starting and running very easily.

The body has cracked the 1/4 mil kms now too.

just like everyone else mine hasnt been really running for about 5+ years until recntly.. put some gas with a charged battery and it fired right up after letting the fuel pump work.. change the fluids and now im deciding what else to put into my engine.. lucas, mmo, seafoam..

SparkienSuggah 11-23-05 12:27 AM

why do first gen owners let their cars sit? our first had sat for 2 years, ran for one, then sat again for 2 before we bought it.
OMP siezed and took out the motor a year after getting it on the road, so we bought a 79 which had sat for THIRTEEN YEARS. i just want to STRANGLE THESE PEOPLE!

incidentally the OMP siezed on that one as well. i fixed it this time before letting her spin.

EDIT: not clear: the first motor chucked 3 seals from the rear rotor, the 79 donated the engine to the 83, and then got squished.. with no doors, hatch glass, hood, fenders, rear tires, oil cooler, etc.

the more you look the more you like... finally when i was near driving age i was looking more and more at my dads 1G and liking more and more of it and now it is almost a daily driver from sitting for a few years

GavinJuice 11-23-05 01:16 AM

i would run some amsoil powerfoam if you can get your hands on it. just run a shitload through the engine to clean er out good. or run the seafoam through the gas, mixer rich.
