Old 12a

A few days ago i found a 12a block sitting in a stack fo motors i pulled it out. I looked at it scratch my head then walla. This thing has 2 distributors. And it had 12a wrote way up ontop it and it had some sensor in the intermediate plate. So did some tlaking with the workers and bought it. Both the distributor wore broken out of the front plate. So the block was pertter much trashed but i was wondering how rare are the these blocks and is there anything anyone needs?

Two distributors? weird. I would say fairly rare as I have never seen one...

Pre-74 12A. Virtually nothing on it will work on anything made after 1973.

what about the intake could i use it it looks to be a high rise with just a few vaccum hoses.

Felix Wankel 11-19-02 10:18 PM

Yeah, but I believe it will take some port matching. The bolt patterns are the same for sure though, I had my Weber manifold on my 73 12A. The carb hit the starter though. Stupid top mounted BS.

PS: Take the engine apart. They have 6mm apex seals :)

6mm Now your gonna make me buy a 2 1/8 socket. either that or i am gonna go find another friend who has one. Well i will play with the intake but it iw over an inch taller then a stock intake. Anything else interesting on these?

I'd imagine it came out of an RX-2.

Rota_Motor 11-20-02 06:27 AM

yeah its an RX-2 motor, it will have 6mm carbon apex seals from the factory, and you wont be able to use much on the later motor as said.

the manifiold will bolt on, but will dip down over the centre plate, which will leave about 1/4-1/2 inch of port above the manifold, would need some alloy welding then probably milled flat again to suit.

oh and another point of interest, it will have studs in the right hand front plate, thats where the engine mount bolted on, well thats how aussie models are anyways.

and the gearbox pattern and also the thrubolt pattern will be different to the later engines also, as well as different exhaust stud spacing.

very interesting thanks for the info off to fire up the impact.
