OK all you gurus.

On my 1985 rx7 Gs. I have a wire, Green with a yellow stripe and red bands ,hanging down on the left side almost to the starter. What does it do? is it why my voltmeter dont work? the manuals dont say anything about it that I can find.My low oil sender wire broke off at the sender. cant find one , so I went to work with my file and exposed enough of the wire to solder to , then hooked it to the broken wire with solder. and it works. Seabees strike again.Tomorrows project is the temp sensor, know where it is but cant get the wire off. , I want to thank all of you for the help in the past, My parts car is an85 base model and the wireing is different..

first of all its "is it why my voltmeter doesn't work" and have you tried hooking it up or did you just look at it hanging there...lol...although it is colorful it is useful...just kidding man...can't say for sure it goes to the volt meter as I don't have any wires matching that description but guess as it the only loose wire and as the voltmeter is the only thing that doesn't work then I guess you should find a place to stick that sucker! if you still not sure I'll tell ya...

Bob is it an automatic transmission car?

Nevermind Bob is offline. When you get back Bob here's what I found by painstaking study of the wireing diagrams in the 1985 shop manual link up in the FAQ post. Go to the wireing diagram section in 50 A-1 pages 10 and 11. These detail the automatic transmission controls which along with many other circuts are powered by the Green with Yellow stripe wire originating from a 15 amp fuse in the box. But as far as I can tell the only time the Green/Yellow circut ventures in front of the firewall is for automatic transmission controls. There is one in particular that comes out of the firewall right above the starter that should connect to a inline diode coming out of the main harness inbetween the fender and brake unit. (as far as I can tell studying these crappy pics). It is circut A11 in the diagrams and pic. If it isn't that one there is a couple of them that run in the trans harness down the the pressure switches on the D/S of the trans, it could have been pulled out of that loom.
