Oil pump chain not right?
 

I got my RB pressure plate today so I flipped the engine flywheel end up on the stand and went to install the flywheel but when I spun the flywheel before I torqued it down... I heard and felt something getting stuck a bit at one spot in the rotation. I could turn the flywheel past the area that was sticking but it just didnt feel right. Checked all the apex seals and they were fine but listened by the front cover and could hear something sticking. Looked down the dizzy hole and the chain looked loose but it was engaged (i didnt replace the chain on the rebuild). Flipped the engine as it would sit in the vehicle and the noise and sticking was gone. Is this normal?

Not sure if you want to go through all this, but if you remove the front cover, and have some calipers handy, check how far you can push the chain in. if it goes more than .5 an inch, then replace it (possibly the sprockets too if your feeling frisky).

The oil pump sprocket on bottom, the Eshaft sprocket on top. The blue is the chain, and the red is the chain when you push it. Push the middle of the chain in, as represented in red. Then measure the difference (circled in green). If over 13mm/,5 inch, then yeah. Replace.

I know it's not as acurate but I used a hard ruler down the dizzy hole which hits aproximately where indicated in the pic. It seems like it's right at .5 inches of play using the point that it touched versus the furthest I could push in with the ruler....

I just dont like how it felt or sounded when the engine was flywheel side up... Considering I havent read of any bad oil chain incidents I think I might go for it as is and try not to drive on my front 2 wheels.

Gonna digest and think about it... too much time and money invested...

I'd go for it if there is no problem when the engine is in it's proper running position. FWIW I've never had a bad chain on any of the 10 engines I've rebuilt.
