Oil Pressure Gauge

I have an odd problem, I have an 84, when i start it the oil pressure is good. As soon as I touch the clutch the oil pressure gauge goes up over 150psi. I don't know a lot about cars, but I didn't think there would be any relation between the oil pressure and the movement of the clutch. Anyone have any Ideas?

Do you have an aftermarket gauge?

Turn the key to "on" but don't start the car. Push the clutch; same symptom?

My Guess
wire from gage is being moved by clutch changing ohms.

possible problems

check under dash and pedal assembly for loose wires,,,some times they go crazy like that,,,and youll end up with a nice after market unit,,,

That was my thinking, yeah.

If it's being caused by an electrical short, odds are good that it'll max the meter even if the engine is off. If so, proves it's electrical rather than hydraulic.

I was having the same problems so I just upgraded to an Autometer gauge and now the problem is solved.

Thanks for all of your help. Turns out it was a wire being pinched by the clutch slave cylinder that that screwing up the gauge. Fixed, and moved the wire. Problem solved.
