Why do you wish to remove it, is it leaking or not working? There is a rebuild proceedure in the archives and Vipernicu42 has posted where to buy the parts, for about 20 bucks, to rebuild the mop.

As far as removing it, there are 2 10 mm headed bolts holding it on, then you need to make/buy a blockpff plate, remove the mop rod from the carb and cap the 2 ports on the carb. Mix ratio is 1 oz/gal. I have to premix mine but I would prefer not too.

Since you are new, welcome to the forum, and the Darkside. In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs. Download the 84 edition and I recommend the carb manual too.

one thing, when you block off the whole i recommend using RTV sealant and a penny behind the block off plate.

im just going to take it off cause i have read a couple different threads about it failing, so i just dont want to take the risk even though its small. so i just want to run a oil mix.

Failure rate is extremely rare. Most mop failures are due to cracked/broken oil feed lines, badly leaking mops or forgetting to hook up the mop rod after carb or throttle body removal. Simple maintinance is the key, just trying to save you the headache of pre-mixing, your car, your choice.

ive never read of one failing. maybe youre thinking of the mop's on the later 2nd gen and 3rd gen rx7's. ive read threads of them failing.

Good point, the electronic ones seem to fail and I haven't heard of a mechincal one failing, unless the drive tab and slot just plain wore out.

huh, ok well i might not do it then since is a 1st gen. then, so i will check all the lines to see if there cracked.

thanks guys

i dont mean to steal this thread, but my rod seems to be frozen, any ideas of breaking it free??

trochoid 10-13-06 07:38 PM

Do you know it it's sticking at the carb or the Mop? They rarely stick at the mop due to leaking and being lubed. If it is sticking there, replace the mop. If it's at the carb, P B Blast the carb rod. But that makes no sense since it's hooked to the primary butterfly rod and the engine wouldn't even rev.

The only thing I can see it doing is sticking open, if that's the case, check the rod for binding or interference between the mop and carb. The rod may be bent.

yeah i think its stuck open, but i dont see any difference, thanks for the advice trochoid, ill try spraying the linkage and stucff.
