Oil cooler thread sizes?
 

I picked up a radiator style oil cooler from a FC today, and i was having a less than smart moment, so regardless the hoses got cut. Whoops. Kind of hard to mount it in my FB without the hoses.

Do the FC's oil cooler hoses bolt right up to the 12a motor? If they do i'll just go buy replacements, but id they don't - does anyone have part numbers or hoses that i can use that will remove the banjo style fitting?


if i HAD TO, I'd go the route of getting brass fittings and routing my own rubber hose with hose clamps, but i much, much prefer getting crimped oil / hydraulic oil hose.

Hose clamps is not a good idea. The oil system is under pressure, sometimes well over 60 psi.

The AN style fittings and steel braided lines are perfect to use. Last time I made myself a set I brought the oil cooler to my local speed shop and had them help figure out which threads I needed. Just bring the banjo bolts and oil lines to get the proper threads all around including the motor.

Or if you are still in need of this info later on I can look for my receipt, I wrote down all the thread sizes, I just have to find it. If you search the info is also here somewhere, I defiantly remember reading it before. Summitracing.com sells their brand AN fittings and braided hose pretty cheap these days and it holds up just as good as the expensive stuff. I've been using it on almost everything for over the last two years with no problems.

Ohhhh and the stock FC lines will work as long as you dont mount the cooler waaay too far foward. You just have to massage the hard line part into position w/out kinking them.

If you still have the fittings, just cut off the old crimps and get a hydraulic shop to replace and re-crimp the hoses. There is a thread detailing the process in the archives.

Cheap too, I think I paid $40.

Racing Beat also sells the metric to AN adapters on their site. Go there... get the specs on the adapters and then go to Summit or ANplumbing.com and order the metric adapter and run some -10 lines. Easy...

I might have to invest in those. I can have my local parts store make hose for a very reasonable price.

IIRC, the thread sizes are 16mmx1.5 for the front cover, and 18mmx1.5 for the rear iron. I believe the oil cooler is also 16mmx1.5, but I am not 100%. I have an FC oil cooler and will double check for you later today.

I just bought some of these fittings from Summit for around $18 shipped. Which is much cheaper than through Racing Beat or anyone else I could find.

Steel braided 10an lines & fittings using Summitracing brand costs around 50-60 $. It's a no brainer. :)

This should be correct. Mazdatrix also sells the adapters for about $13 each, plus the sealing washers, and they list the front cover as 16mm and the rear cover as 18mm, although no thread pitch is specified, only diameter. They also say the 16mm fits 79-85 oil coolers, and the 18mm fits the 86-92 coolers.
