oil cooler replacement (i did search)
 

My oil cooler is in need to replacement, and after a quick search on ebay, i've found several aftermarket oil coolers. Are any of you running any of these coolers? if so which ones? how big does a cooler need to be to satisfy our engines?

Ok, well, i guess i should have been more specific. I do not want a used cooler, since they all look very rough and are probably in as bad of condition as the one I'm taking out. I want to buy a new one, probably aftermarket, and wanted advice on which one to buy. Has anyone had any experience with them? or am I the only one who has a pooched cooler? If i get one of these aftermarket ones, are their any concerns with hooking the lines up?

Most aftermarket oil coolers are not as good as the stock Mazda front mount units. Putting an aftermarket oil cooler on a rotary, usually results in much higher oil temps.

NO! There is not an aftermarket oil cooler that compares with the capability of the stock RX-7 coolers.

Recommend that you get a used one and have it professionally cleaned. Or you could pop for the $500-$600 for a new one from Mazda. :-)

+1. Agreed. This was confirmed by my tech guy who runs a popular rotary shop on the East Coast. "The stock oil cooler does a far better job than any aftermarket one can do."

Just do the 2nd Gen Oil cooler conversion, easy and bullet proof.

Every 2nd gen made,regardless of trim/type, had the same air/oil cooler and they abound in wrecking yards nowdays.The FC cooler is much less prone to cracking since the unions are banjo rather than flare/washer type.The rubber lines are still prone to leaking,but its cheap and easy to replace them.

what will I encounter when I install? is it a direct swap?

sorry, I already have a FMOC off the GSLSE I swapped the engine from. Is it a direct swap with that one?
