Oh, Balls

So I have a weird issue and it may be an easy fix but when I get out of my car and lock the door then shut it the lock pops back up and is unlocked. Is this normal? I can't imagine it would be. I took a look at everything exterior wise and it looks fine. Any ideas?

Lizo7 12-18-06 02:26 PM

......yea thats so you dont lock yourself out. All rx-7s have them. If you want to lock the door shut the door and lock it with the key or get some aftermarket locker thing.

It's normal. You have to lift the handle while you're closing it. It's a safety mechanism so you don't lock your keys in it.

blown7 12-18-06 02:27 PM

that is completly normal on a import. when you close the door you need to hold up the handle so that it stays locked. if you don't hold up the handle it will just unlock itself

lol. three people replied at the same time.

Its commonly referred to as "jdm lock" amongst me and some other friends who own 80's Japanese Sportscars.

Its commonly found on Z cars, the Toyota Corolla AE86 and SR5, and Celica Supras.

Yea like all of them said. LOL

HIM_Tattoos 12-18-06 02:33 PM

roarinrotaryrx7 12-18-06 02:34 PM

Whizbang 12-18-06 02:40 PM

yes.

Naegleria_Fowleri 12-18-06 03:37 PM

So that is why I could never lock my Rx7's!?!?!?!

FirebirdSlayer666 12-18-06 04:00 PM

After a while though it's just natural to lift the handle when you lock the 7 up so if you left your keys in it you still get locked out LOL. That is why I keep a spare set of keys in my wallet.

At first the car was marketed toward women, enough said. LOL

twinkletoes 12-18-06 04:30 PM

Yep, just like everyone else said. Hold the handle up when closing it. Its funny when people think they've locked but your no you didn't. I just know read that post above mine^, and wow, your spot on.

Pele 12-18-06 08:34 PM

In Hondas, you have to hold the handle up, THEN press the lock button... Otherwise, you can't press the lock button down...

Regardless, in ALL of the cars I've owned, I've locked the keys in them...

It becomes reflex action to hold the handle and lock, then hold the handle and close... I do it to the work vehicles and they lock by remote control.

twinkletoes 12-18-06 08:37 PM

I do the same thing firebirdslayer. Never without two keys for my 7

PercentSevenC 12-19-06 11:37 AM

Heh, my programming teacher has a key that will open my FB. Ask me how I know. :)
