odd problem

ok so here it is. i have an 84 gs 12a with a nikki. this night i was driving my car and i was going 45ish in 4 gear and after awhile of driving at that speed my car starts to shake a little as i continue the shaking continues and gets worst. after that i decided to put it in neutral and the car dies.. idk.. try to start it up while im moving but it doesnt want to start so i push start while im still going on the road put it in 3rd and bumps right up and push on the gas no rpms go up and i dont go nowhere and the car shakes more and dies. so my question on this one is whats wrong i know its not my tranny. but i do have a bad diff. but that shouldn't be y it died so im kinda lost on this one any help would be great. thanks

Run outta gas or fuel pump? does it turn over normally or are their noises etc. need some more details if you're gonna get any real useful help. you could also help by listing any and all engine mods like emissions removal, sterling nikki etc. as it can help narrow down a possible malfunction like a vaccum leak or something.

Definately need more info, but check the basics first. fuel filter/fuel pressure/vac lines.

sorry about that. i have no mods done ive replaced alot on that car to make it have an original stock look to it. ive replace the the fuel filter like 3 times and fuel pump once since ive gotn this car. also jus a few weeks ago my car overheated a little while i was on the freeway. found out that the line going to my heater box cracked but i replaced it with some radiator line that i bought from autozone.ever since that incident my car has been wierd when i first start it up it seems weak ill try to get a recording of it so you can get a picture of it.

First thing to do is a compression test.

tookey bird 03-01-10 08:20 PM

ok thanks ill do that tomorrow in auto (yes im still in school but i try to be knowledgeable in these forums)

+1 on that. Overheating a rotary is a big no no. If compression is good, then you start the search. FFA- Fuel, Fire, Air.

ok did a compression test and i read 100psi on all idk if thats normal or not and i also ordered some spark plugs to replace the one that are on now just to see if that will improve it or not

tookey bird 03-05-10 09:54 AM

ok guys I've checked my car and I still can't find what's causeing my problem its every time I keep my speed the same my car starts to resist and shakes and dies even when I press on the gas it bogs down I have no idea what's. Causeing this it has. To be somthing with my carburator or the mechanics with it but what???

trochoid 03-05-10 10:50 AM

Did you get 2 or 6 100 psi readings during the compression test? i.e., did you remove the Schrader valve and got 3 strong readings from each rotor?

tookey bird 03-05-10 12:55 PM

Yes on the six strokes and yea I got 100psi on every rotor but I didn't disconnnect the schrader valve. Where's the schrader valve located at or is it another term for somthing else?? Sorry I am still learning about. This car

Fuel starvation shouldn't result in shaking. It sounds like you've tossed an apex seal (sorry). Try removing the top spark plug and crank it over while listening to the puffs of air that escape. Compare the sound, and mostly the rythm, between the front and rear rotors. Chances are, you will hear a slower rate of puffing on the rear rotor (most likely rotor to die).

Best of luck...

The schraeder value is the valve on the compression tester that makes it work in "peak hold" fashion; traps the needle at the highest reading. Works fine for a piston, but gives you false readings on a rotary where one plug hole serves three working chambers per rotor rotation.

Since you have three separate compression readings to take from each rotor, one for each working chamber, the schraeder valve needs to be removed or bypassed so the needle can drop between compression readings. Otherwise, it looks like you get the same (highest) reading from each working chamber.

+1 on the compression test, check again and remove the valve, if its fine then, have you done a carb rebuild, if not then that could be it, since you have changed the fuel filter, have you drained and cleaned the fuel tank, alot of times it gets rusty inside and there is a screen inside the tank that gets clogged, also the small filters in the carb that are on the banjo bolts were the fuel lines connect to can get clogged. my car was doing the same thing and it was fuel starvation, blow your lines with compressed air, make sure they are clean.
