noise after coilover install
 

I've just finished installing the re-speed coilovers into my 84 gs, I've had the rear done for about a week, and just a few minutes ago got the front set up in without any issues. I took the rear swaybar off, and haven't replaced the front swaybar yet as I am going to have someone grind out the brackets holding it to the subframe. Everything seemed to look right after letting the car off the jacks, and I dialed the ride height in where I wanted it, however, after leaving the garage I pulled a little way down the driveway and have noiced a lot of groaning sounds, mostly from the right rear. Is this just everything settling into place, or do I have a major problem? I haven't left the driveway for fear that something could be badly messed up. I'll include pictures as soon as I find the camera..

I've been noticing the same problem. Lift the rear of the car up and check to see if the bottom of the spring is seated against the axle perch properly. The end of the coil should be butted up against the indentation on the perch. I think this might be what's causing the groaning in my car. It may eventually settle on it's own, but it would be better if you checked it first.

Strange. Definitely take a good look at it, because I had no noise at all with my install.

o rion, I jacked the rearend up looking to see if anything was on a bind yesterday, and found your exact issue on the passenger side. I just re-seated the spring and threaded sleeve and brought the car back down, no noises anymore! The problem I think, is that it is very hard to get the jack to come down nice and slow, mine has a tendencey to just want to drop the car even if you're very gentle with the handle. Since the rear spring setup isn't under constant tension before you drop the car, it gets a little jarred if the car comes down too abruptly.

Did your swaybar come with Poly bushings? If so, do they have Zerk fittings?

Maybe a little shot of grease on the bushings would quiet things down. It sure did with the AWR bar on my Protege5
