Noise.....

How loud would a 12a with just headers be?

Louder than a civic with ricer exhast?
Louder than a v8 with just headers?

mperformance 07-27-02 12:57 AM

headers and no muffler and presilencer?

SICK just SICK!!!

REVHED 07-27-02 01:01 AM

It will honestly make your ears bleed. You'd be insane to even try it unless it's just for track use.

ghetto-rx7 07-27-02 01:22 AM

 ya for the track thats what i meant.........

LOL amagine the look on a ricers face when you drove by like that :D:p:

Keaponlaffen 07-27-02 02:24 PM

It's definately NOT A PLEASANT NOISE... I fired my car up for the first time ever with just the stock manifold hanging off the block, nothing else, no pre-cats, nothing, and it was so loud, I couldn't even her the person next to me talking... Not to mention the fact that there was so much smoke that it hid almost the whole school :D :p:

I personally wouldn't suggest it, I'd at least put a racing muffler or something on it, otherwise it sounds way too Brappy and obnoxious, not even in a pleasant way, just an annoying "Atomic Weedeater" way...

I cranked up my RP streetport with the custom RP header and nothing else in a single car garage after I transplanted it into the '80. Used ATF to get it started and MAN!! was that a freakin' circus act!! You couldn't even sit in the car except at idle. All that damn smoke, the neighbors thought the house was on fire!! My wife sat outside to explain to everyone that it was OK as I died inside the car keeping it alive long enough to warm up (no choke at the time...). It is gawdawful loud like you can't believe. Some tracks require rotaries to be muffled...

ghetto-rx7 07-27-02 03:02 PM

lmao....

ok what about just the headers and stock muffeler?

mar3 07-27-02 03:13 PM

I would place that at Harley-Davidson loud...depends on the muffler, really...

Keaponlaffen 07-27-02 03:36 PM

I agree..

jr69187 07-27-02 03:36 PM

hey guys i drive a street port 12 a with a racing beat header and 2" out with a single 18 glass pack. And it is not that bad as long as you keep acceleerating. never slow down or else people will shit when they see a big fire ball come out. Oh yeah and never floor it unless you like bleeding out your ears. I can pass my friend in his truck which has 350 with opne headers and it makes his head hurt. and i like the braaaaaaaaaaa sound off the line and never drive at less than 4k on the tach cause the exhuast is obnoxious below that.

jr

did you say something? i couldn't hear you the car was idling

nashman69g 07-27-02 03:49 PM

I personally have tried it!!!!
It is way, way to f*$@%! loud!!!
I drove around town and almost went deaf!!
My friend told me it was shacking his petals in his car!!!
It also lowers HP!!!!

So in otherwords.... don't do it at all!!!
unless going deaf is a thing u want to do!!!

ghetto-rx7 07-27-02 03:58 PM

Sounds like fun :D

Naw, Im thinking about just making my own straitpipe from my headers to possibly a Racing Bee Catback(sp)They make catbacks for the car dont they?

jr69187 07-27-02 04:08 PM

racing beat cat backs???????
don't think so

1981-82 RX-7 High Performance Exhaust System*
(less factory connecting pipe)

Racing Beat offers complete RX-7 high-performance exhaust systems for the 1981-82 RX-7. The systems include our Header/Collector, Power-Pulse Presilencer, and Power Pulse main muffler. These kits fit exactly to all stock mounting points, and include all necessary gaskets and hangers. The only part we do not include is the factory connecting pipe that mounts just ahead of the main muffler. There is no horsepower to be gained by replacing this pipe with a larger diameter assembly. If your factory connecting pipe needs replacing, we do have a limited selection available.

These exhaust systems offer excellent horsepower
gains when you require a muffled exhaust system for your stock-ported engine. The actual horsepower increase depends on which year/model stock RX-7 exhaust system you are comparing to, but a 22% increase at 7000 rpm is typical. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Power-Pulse Presilencer and the Power Pulse Main muffler, the exhaust noise is only slightly higher than stock, with a very low, pleasant character.
that could also be an option and take the cat or w/e that thing is since I dont have to pass emisions
EDIT: It says race legal only so i guess ill just leave that thing on.

Ehhh... WRONG!! :p:

It actually does raise HP, 'cause;

less restrictive = better breathing = more HP

Your car does seem to feel slower though, mainly 'cause of an illusion... I don't know what it is, but the louder a car is, the slower it seems to go. I find my car feels way faster now that I have put a fully restrictive system on it, but it's probably actually dropped my HP rating about 10%

Oh, Ghetto, where are you racing in BC? I wanna find out! :p: There's no where around Kamloops that I can think of besides the oval track out whispering pines....

Just make sure you collect the headers, and not run them seperate.

Unless you are running a peripheral port, you do want the headers to collect somewhere in the exhaust. In other countries, the headers are called "extractors" because that's what they do. The have a scavenging effect of "pulling" the exhaust pulses with the vacuum left by the previous pulse.

If they don't connect, they don't help each other, so
you DO lose Horsepower.

ghetto-rx7 07-27-02 08:46 PM

Sun Valley speedway in Vernon its only an oval track but its $18 for the whole day.

Usually on weekends me and some friends go out there and rent it for $100 for 2 hours if theres 10 of us its not to bad.

Kinda takes the wind out of the sails for those who think dual exhaust from engine to tailpipe is the shite. On a V8, twins work because there are 4 pulses per header, but even then the factory usually puts a cross-pipe to smooth the flow between both pipes.

The best headers make sure the exhaust from each port travels exactly the same distance to do as DF has indicated and pulse correctly for scavenging, etc. The rest of the tailpipe then carries away the exhaust and dumps it out the back of your car so the noise is left behind you.

My '83 RX-7 had an exhaust leak right after the exhaust manifold and it was LOUD. The funny thing is, loud cars do really seem slower- it sounds like the engine is doing a ton of work since it's making all that noise therefore you expect the car to be going faster than it is. One of those phsychosomatic illusions.

I got a replacement muffler, but its very loud. I have had a bunch of backfire through it over the years with the stock port, mildport and then bridgeport. Very loud now! he he. Long tube headers also make it louder I found out. There is a siliencer in each but doesn't really help. :)
