no trailing spark
 

I was timing my 82 rx and when i put the timing light on the trailing plug wire to the first rotor it showed no spark. So i went back to the wire coming from the coil to the distributor and it was firing, but then it would stop, it goes off and on. My tach doesn't work at the same time the trailing coil isn't working. So to make sure that was the problem i swapped the coils, but then i got the same exact thing on the happening with a different coil. Doesn't make sense to me, help please.

where are the igniters? i've heard this quite a bit and i keep expecting to see a cigeratte lighter or something somewhere in the engine bay. hope it isn't close to my thermal reactor.

igniters are little box like things on the distributor, they have a wire going to each of them, and they are held on by 2 screws. on an '85 they are on the left side of the distributor. i can take a pic if you need any more info on finding them.

1979 Cars DIDNT have them.....But 80 had them in the box mounted on the strut tower......The later ones, I think were on the distributer.....

um, i've got a box that hooks to the coils and whatnot that is mounted on the shock tower. its small and brownish. has wires that loop on one side. mine was a late 79 model so i might have started recieving updates that the 80 saw.

The box you're describing is the fusible links. :D

Being a 79 I'd say you have a points dizzy. ;)
