no rotor more motor?
yes yes yes i'm a noob. i work at a chevy dealership and i get asked all the time "why don't you just put a small block in that thing?"
is it worth my trouble to put something like that in and slap mazda in the face? i just want a good quick street car. i am not looking to have the fastest time at the local strip. |
The deer on the hood will have the same effect on handling....but it'll be pretty good at smoking the tires as a drag race car...

If it still runs as a rotary, sell it to me then go buy a 280Z and drop a small block in that instead. There are people (like me) that cant find a damn running 1st gen anywhere, and then there are people like you taking them apart, haha. We're made for eachother!

since it's now sunday morning, from what i saw yesterday morning/afternoon, with a turbo rotary u'd have a pretty quick street car and still turn some good numbers at the strip.

^^ exactly. Pistons in pistons, rotary in rotary, thats how it should be. RX7's wernt ment to be drag cars, if they were then they woulda given you a V8 when you bought it. Take it to the track and watch the rustang fade in your mirror is what I say.
|
And if you brought the rx7 with the v8 swap, you'd probably get to watch the rustang and the rotary powered rx7 fall behind you.

Pshaw. Deleting the wonderful inline 6 in a 280Z is almost as bad as de-rotarizing an RX-7. Dude should just buy a V-8 mustang and call it a day.
In the end, its his car to do with what he wants as we all know, so no amount of internet yelling or arguing is going to sway him, but if he does chose this path, hopefully he at least sells someone the motor that needs it :) ~T.J. |
Depends on how quick you want the car? With headers/exhaust and a good after market carb, you can increase hp by 40%. Try that with a piston engine. If you want more than that ans sill stay with the rotary, you either open up the engine, port and rebuild it, or upgrade to a 13B NA or Turbo. 230-240hp on an S4 13BT is easy with bolt ons.
Welcome to the forum and the Darkside. In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs, carb manual, etc. Download and read whatever you need. Which part of KS are you in? . . . . . . |
ok so i have a racing beat holley carb and intake and my exhahust will be done in a couple of days (header and a muffler is all) whats next guys?
i want to keep the rotary, but i want to have a reliable quick street car... i also have an 85 gs that ran when i parked it but i stole alot of parts off of it how hard is it for a noob and some gearhead friends to rebuild one in his garage? oh and i live in hutchinson kansas it is near wichita |
Rotaries are reliable. I've 220,000 kms on a stock engine with narry a problem.

Wow. Here we go again with the age old comparison. Piston versus Rotor. I seriously thought about putting a 5.0/AOD in my 80 SA. I toyed with this for almost a year. Now that I have a good running 12A back in her with a RB intake and header with a 600 holley, the 5.0/AOD is still sitting in my garage collecting dust. I'll wide up using the Ford drivetrain one day...............in a Ford. If you really want a good kick in the seat, turbo that rotary like it was ment to be!
