No leading spark, running on trailings only. Help

It's my 85 GSL-SE.

The engine starts and idles roughly around 750, very roughly. There is a loss of power. It can get up to highway speed easy, but its fairly gutless.

SO, I was troubleshooting and if I unplug the leading wire from the COIL, there is no change. If I unplug the trailing one, it shocks the hell out of me and kills the engine. IF I put the leading wire on the trailing coil pack, it idles smoothly and runs like a champ. If I unplug and ground the SPARK PLUG WIRE for either leading plug, there is NO arcing, but I get shocked if I try that with the trailings.

I tried switching the coil packs and it's the same story: whichever coil is hooked up to the leading wires (+/-, the white "blade" and black + connector) does not give spark. Also, if the Trailing wire from the coil to the distributor is hooked up, it runs like shit. If the leading one is, it runs well.

So, the coils are good, but there is no leading spark. What could be causing this?

THANK YOU

Sounds like one of your igniter's went out....check for voltage to your coils too.

check the power wire going to the coil + and the power wire going to the distributor ign + when the key is on the 2nd click engine off.it should be +12v going to both coils and both distributors ign.

What/where is an igniter? Sorry, I'm new to FB's. The coils I refer to are the two black cylinders next to the battery with blade connectors. Thanks for the replies.

Ignitors are the little black boxes (2) on the side of the dizzy. They are the ignition control boxes.
Insure both have the connectors attached firmly, as a loose connector will also cause this issue.

Problem solved, it was the igniter. thank you.
