No High Beams - Help!
My 85 GSL-SE's hight beams do not work at all. When I put the headlights on high beam they simply turn off all the way. I've checked the lights out and the high beams on them work in my truck - but not in the seven. What's the deal? Oh and this happens with both head lights. Is there a fuse somewhere that I am missing?

Or chack the switch. All 4 of my FBs had that problem. It was the switch in the steering collum. If they work when you pull the switch towards you, but they dont work when you push the switch away, Im sure its the switch in the collum. On three of my four, I have fixed this problem by simply moving the switch in and out of the high beam position rapidly a whole lot. Another way would be to take it apart and clean the contacts :).

Yeah, none of the swtiches worked when i got my car... Disconnected them and sprayed on some good old electrical parts cleaner, and everything worked like a charm.... excepet the window sprayer... damnit....

i have the same problem with the high beams, the work when i pull them back but not when i push them forward, another thing my car has been doing though is blowing fuses, all the interior lights the side markers the running lights go out, and i do not know why i am blowing the fuse, is there anyone else who has had this kind of a problem?
thanks kyle |
Thanks for the replies, I'll check it out this afternoon. My brights don't work if I pull or push the stick so it sounds like the fuseable link is suspect. Also, my interior dome light is working intermittantly. I initially took it apart and resodered a few wires and it started working now it's not any more ideas?

Bingo! It was the switch. No working like a champ. By the way anyone out there with the plastic trim that covers the steering column?
I know what your thinking but this was already broken when I bought it. |
If your blowing fuses then remove all aftermarket wiring that's not in use. I had a problem too cause some nit wit wired a CB in wrong and it kept popping my fuses when i rolled down the windows.

How do i go about cleaning the contacts? I hear someone mention electrical parts cleaner. Where do i get that at?

Well I don't have a High Beam problem but the problem I do have is related to this topic. When I turn the switch on for the head lights so that they are to come on they don't. If I tap or play with the switch (on the steering column) it sometimes goes on.
What do I need to do? Thanks. |
