No Brights.
 

Couldnt find a thread that would help me, My brights on my gsl-se do not work when clicked forward. However they do work when switch is pulled back for temporary use. Does this sound like a relay issue or switch issue? if switch does anyone have a working one for sale??

sounds like a switch problem happened to my old XD ford falcon

switch contacts need cleaning which involves disassembly of the switch.

There are no relays in these cars for the headlights. All of the current runs through the switch.

If you remove the steering wheel and then the column cover you can remove the switch assembly, dismantle, and clean the contacts. Be careful if you decide to attempt this as there are a bunch of little ball bearings in there that will try to run away.

Interesting: Was it all FB's, or just the GSL-SE's, that have a three position (center, forward, back) headlight switch?

SA's only have the two (normal & back).

I think it was all FB's. My 84 GS has it, but perhaps it's just a series 3 thing.

My 83 GSL had the 3 position configuration also. That was the first switch I took apart.

yep, i think it's an FB thang.

so i tried taking it all apart and not only do my high beams still not work but once it got dark and i was away from home i realized that i also dont have low beams... so i have everything back apart and am playing with the tabs and i still cant get low beams to work again... any ideas??

So i think i may have screwed up by trying to lightly sand these connections to get a fresh surface... any ideas how to fix it? or if anyone has this whole box they can sell me PLEASE let me know!!!

All FBs, I've got the exact same problem with my 82 GSL

Sanding the connections was what I did. Unless you sanded the pad off, it should be fine. Are you sure you got everything back together correctly? The first time I did this, I forgot to plug in my wipers. Before you panic, check the simple things. You can also reassemble and plug in the switch to test it before installing it on the column, etc.

Disassembling and cleaning is the best way to do it, but in a pinch I have had good luck flooding the thing with contact cleaner and working the switch for a hundred cycles or so. Due to there being no relays, this is a common problem on FBs. I highly recommend installing a relay harness for the headlights, it makes a noticeable difference in light output as well.

So i still have only high beams and no low beams working currently, I know there are no relays but are there any inline fuses to check (besides the fusable link under the hood).

I also put in a different set of bulbs to make sure it wasnt the bulbs that happened to have gotten fried. I have also quadrouple checked to make sure everything is back together correctly...

Red/yellow wire in the combo switch plug is for low beams. Should have 12v when switch is plugged in and turned on. Nothing between the switch and headlights but wire and the plugs at the switch and at the headlight.
