That's what I would do. Just don't screw up the mounting surface between spacer/manifold

So I finally got the engine disassembled last night. To get the flywheel off:

Flywheel puller
Oxy-Acetylene torch
2x 2-foot pry bars
BFH

I put tension on the flywheel puller with a ~500 ft/lb SnapOn impact gun, and stripped the bolt holes around the e-shaft. Re-tapped for some bigger, coarse thread SAE fasteners and went at it again.

Put as much force into it as I could with the impact gun. Lab TA (I'm taking Auto Tech 1 and 2 currently) heated the hell out of the center of the flywheel. Two guys put pressure on either side of the flywheel, and I hit the lugs of the flywheel with the BFH. It took us ~2 hours to get it to pop.

Started the disassembly. Rear plate came off. Minor damage to rear housing, caused by the corner pieces of the apex seals going wonky and gouging into the housing (very minor and right on the edge). Minor chrome flaking. Motor ran strong before it seized, so I'm hopeful that it's usable.

Pull Rotor #2 and inspect it. It is in very good shape, and then I notice what it's stamped:

N

I got excited. IIRC: N rotors are rare, light, and strong as hell.

We started pulling the front cover, and disaster. Two heads snapped. Out comes the drill bits. I drill out the two bolts, but alas, I damage the front cover. Oh well, I have another.

Try and remove the front plate. No dice. Get really excited at this point. I was hoping that I had spun the front main bearing and not one of the rotor bearings (These are a matched set of mint 'N' rotors after all...)

We struggle for ~30 minutes to get the bearing off of the E-shaft.

No damage to the E-Shaft. Shocking.

Front housing has minor chrome flaking and another pristine 'N' rotor.

I'll put up pics of the rotor housings when I get some.

Just wanted to post a little update.

Sweet! Glad you have finally run across some good news Jim. This year has been some pretty tough sledding for you... :)

Yes it has been. Now I just have to get a new battery, put the needles back into their seats, hook up my carb. solenoids, and try and get my car to fire.

great post.

SHE MOVES! So after farting around with floats, solenoids, and other shit, my '85 just moved under its own power for the first time since DGRR11. I need to button up some wiring, replace my trailing ignitor, check fuses, and maybe replace my alternator (I accidentally grounded out the alternator output post), and then put my hood on, and I'll be able to drive it.
