Does anyone know a good company that sells rebuilt ca 4bbl nikki carburators?

Autozone sells the remanufactured NIKKIs for like $350 I think. NAPA has them for $750.

Racing Beat sells the Holley system for over $800.

the dealer sells a brand spanking new one for about.....2 times the price of my rex...which was 1300....
i think ur better off searching...its free and very easy...lol

Sterling can rebuild you one, or modify a stock one, or you could go with the above mentioned options, or grab one from a junkyard, or buy a rebuild kit and DIY. Endless options.

Why do you need a "CA 4bbl" ... Cali carbs are much rarer than anything else and only needed for passing california emissions.

Sterling rebuilds stock carburetors and is the only person I'd recommend for the job. If you absolutely have to pass emissions in your area, then get a stock rebuild from him. If you don't have to pass emissions, he can give you the "Sterling Nikki" rebuild which is an incredible improvement over stock.

Flow test numbers for a stock Nikki vs. a Sterling Nikki are 313cfm vs. 465cfm if you're looking for something quantitative. A search for Sterling Nikki should bring up quite a few threads that outline details of the other improvements he does to the carb.


For aftermarket, RacingBeat sells Holley carb kits. A stock 12a engine would take a Holley 465, which flows the same cfm as a Sterling but need more tweaking and tuning to run smoothly, and will cost you more. Still not a bad choice.

RacingBeat also has some 2bbl setups, and if you surf around the For Sale section here on the forum or ebay, you can usually get a variety of aftermarket carbs like Webers, Dellortos, Mikunis... Sidedraft or downdraft, and I've even seen some people mod up Edelbrocks to work as well.


I've got a Sterling and I like it quite a bit. Check the archives for any threads by Sterling and you'll get more info about these carbs than can shake a stick at.



OR if you want to get your hands dirty, check the FAQ. There's a link in there to a page with manuals on it, and on that page there's a manual for how to rebuild the stock carbs. Rebuild kits from Standard or Hygrade usually run $35ish from any parts store and the rebuild can be done in an afternoon. It's not that hard to do. I've done a few of those too.

I put the goods in my rusty and ran the heck out of her for a few hours. Carb nice and clean now.

what did you use specifically?

Seafoam works great for cleaning up the fuel system and the motor. Use a full can with a partial tank of gas (1/8 - 1/4) and go for a drive....

Also, if you can afford to wait, then Sterling is a great way to go. Last I heard, the cost was about 350 - 400 dollars for full modification, but you have to send it in and wait a couple months to get it back. Well worth the wait though. I love my Sterling carb. Nothin better in my opinion, and way cheaper than anything else out there to boot. :)

I've been buying my rebuils kits at AutoZone, they sell the better kit with the aluminum washers. If you haven't downloaded the factory carb manual yet, do so. The link is in my sig.
