New 1st Gen Owner

Hi,

Just bought a new first gen last night. 85 GSL-SE, blue exterior, gray interior, glass sunroof. Supposedly rebuilt engine. What maintence would you recommend tackling first?

Congrats on your purchase! You'll love it!

If you're new to rotories, my first recommendation is to read this FAQ thoroughly. It's filled with tons of useful info.

As far as maintenance goes, well..... how 'bout an oil change? Check out the FAQ and search this forum for ALL the opinions on this subject. I use Gastrol 20W50 along with a half quart of MMO. I'd also suggest that you install some nice synthetic oil in your tranny and rear. I recommend Redline MT-90 for the trans and Redline 75W90 for the rear. The stuff isn't cheap but it's good.

Best of luck with your new ride and welcome to the forum!

ditto the above. search the forum for the MMO (marvel Mystery oil ) subject. Change all the fluids asap, and it will be likely you will need to replace shocks /struts but, maybe not, they mayhave been done already. ...anyway...enjoy the car....I have two of them ...love it....cjf

Hello and Congrats. A couple of cheap things you could check/replace are the distributor cap and rotor. Also won't hurt to pull the spark plugs out and take a look at what kind of shape they are in. One more thing, battery cables, take a look at them and make sure your terminals are tight and free of corrosion. good luck.

i changed spark plugs, motor oil (valv. 10w40), and rear differential fluids, and the car is running tons better than when i got it.
