Never-Ending Beeping.
So, I've searched around a bit and couldn't find anything helpful, let alone anything on this topic for First Gen.'s. Everything around is all for FC's. So, now to the problem;
Occasionally when I start up, there will be this LOUD beep noise that isn't intermittent, it's just a constant beeeep. Now, sometimes when it would happen before if I pressed the headlight up/down button it would go away. Almost like a short in the wiring somewhere. Also, my coolant level buzzer works as it should and my levels aren't an issue. I've tried pressing all the buttons surrounding the gauge cluster (It sounds childish but I figured I didn't have anything to lose), and nothing solved it. This problem sometimes came up before but it was very randomly and it would normally go away after about 10 seconds. So what am I to do? :scratch: Thanks, and Merry Christmas. , Simon |
Might be the oscillator. Unplug it, up behind the left front headlight, in front of the battery. See if that helps.

Coolant was my first thought but since you said that I guess I'm out of ideas... :lol:

Not your door ajar buzzer is it? Sometimes mine will stick in cold weather, and would buzz after new weatherstripping when the door would shut but not enough to engage the switch fully.

Are you sure sometime along the way somone didnt try installing an aftermarket alarm. You have a buzzer and a warning chime that goes off. The chime can be heard when you leave the headlights on with the ignition off.
My brake sensor and water level temp sensor wasnt hooked up so I hooked up the brake, and grounded the water level sensor to stop my annoying chime. It was loud... |
is it a beep, a chime or a buzz? big difference in those and we can better help determine how to help.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. Tomorrow I'm going to go and check all of these different things out now that I have some things to try. Finally gotten back home from the holidays.
As for the specific sound, it's definitely a beep. Not your door ajar buzzer is it? Sometimes mine will stick in cold weather, and would buzz after new weatherstripping when the door would shut but not enough to engage the switch fully. ______________ |
Sounds like the oscillator, if the beep is a screechy beep. Oscillators get cranky when it's cold and damp outside.

So, it was the oscillator. Thank you very much! I can actually sit in the car now without my head exploding!

There's an old saying that if you're taking a biology test and liver is one of the answers, pick it because the liver is responsible for so many things.
The oscillator is kind of like a liver when it comes to annoying and irregular beeps, buzzes, bells, screeches, whistles and otherwise indescribable noises that come from your FB. Unlike the liver, however, as far as I can tell, the oscillator doesn't do anything. |
unplug
