Need some help.. won't start when warm
 

I have a 1980 with a old school 13B 4 port with a large streetport and holley 650 DP carb. Car will start fine first thing in the morning, when i drive for 20 or 30 minutes and shut car off it will not start for 20-30 minutes. If I wait 30 inutes car starts no problem. When it's warm i shut off engine while coasting to try and start it and didn't start. I then pop started the car and it fired right up. Did a compression test on car when warm and wouldn't start. compression reads 90 in both rotors. Can anyone give me some advise?

Is my carb to big? I think it's flodding but not sure. Pulled plugs when it don't start and they are fine..

Could you have a bad ignitor. They are "solid state" and thus can be sensitive with heat. If you have one that is weak it may fail after you let the car "heat soak". When you pop start the car, your voltage to the ignition may be higher because no power is lost due to the starter cranking.

tested for spark/gas and it's all good.. plugs are dry not wet..

try upgradding your engine grounds, when the engine gets hot it expands and might not be letting your spark plugs ground well. go get some 10 or 8 guage wire for a stereo system or something like that then run a wire to your engine block somewhere on an engine blot to your battery then run another to the frame of the car from the battery.

You can never go wrong with grounds .. actually they are more important than ppl think , the bigger the gauge the better , power flows backwards , go 4 gauge min.

I'd put money on a vacuum leak.

where would the leak be? running a holley setup

my '79 does the exact same thing.... would really like to fix it... :(

Sure it not flooding a bit of fuel down after you kill it?

Check your plugs when it doesn't want to start after driving for a while. Might just be something loose in the carb that doesn't stop the fuel in time when the engine is killed.

well have you upgraded grounds yet?or checked the plugs?
