need more power in my 12a!!!!!!!!!

:wallbash: I have a freshly renbilt 12a with a racing beat header, a 1500 fire control ignition system, and a new dellorto side draft carb, all with only 3000 miles on it . But i need more power the car just is not fast enough. Just yesterday i raced my buddy and he has a nice supercharged 96 mustang gt and i beat him off the start and up until mid second gear but then he killed me and I can not have that happen again. i need some advice, how can i get 250 RWHP out out of this engine. Imserious i want blow away that mustang next time i race him and i need some help doing it.

If you are a god fearing man, I suggest praying. It may be your ony solution. hes got a superchager and you are still na. looks like boost is an other solution.

LOL. But in all seriousness you have opstions but how much money do you want to spend? You could tear it back apart and street port it, or half or full bridge port. Other than boost seems like your only other option

Rogue_Wulff 04-19-06 11:43 AM

Lets see. SC 5.0L VS 1146CC NA. WTF were you thinking????????????????????

jaydun323 04-19-06 11:44 AM

I know i can go the forced induction way but that is were i need the help i need to know how i can go about putting a turb system on my engine

jaydun323 04-19-06 11:46 AM

and also i probaly wont even need that much hp because he is only pushing 275 280 and thats at the flywheel, and i know that gt is much heavier than my 84 gsl

jaydun323 04-19-06 11:48 AM

its only a 4.6 and like i said he is only pushing maybe 280 at the most

Buy a 3rd gen already modded and be done with it, or quit drag racing and take him to a race track with turns. Buy a suspension and lots of seat time, lots and lots of seat time.

It totally depends on how much you're willing to spend, and what you're willing to try. Turbos on these cars are a custom job unless you drop in a Turbo II engine. Talk to Robert at Rotaryshack.com for your forced induction options. Otherwise, like it was said before you could go half or full bridge port as long as your rebuild is pretty fresh (i dont think a streetport would give you the kind of power you're looking for).

By the way Robert has his own part of the forum in the vendors section. You could ask turbo questions there.

And none of this is going to be cheap.

www.rotaryshack.com

How can you go about it? with money, clueless.

Balance your checkbook and make shure you have at least 2k before you start. If you don't, save it up and search for info on this forum.

There is not a more coverd topic in this section than: "I wanna beat mustangs, how can I turbo my 12A"

Good luck.

I'm guessing you have about 125-160 hp with those mods, and although he is heavier, his power will still 0wn you. From what I recall, it takes 1 hp to move 18 pounds. I think those cars weight about 3,300 lbs, as ours weigh 2,500. Try to stay with me... 800 lb difference divided by 18 = 44.4. 280 hp he is pushing minus 44.4 because of weight and that would make his car nearly the same weight but with 240 hp. Do you see what I'm getting at?
Weight is a big difference, but not THAT much.

Bone stock Chevy 350 ($300 junkyard special) with a 125 hp shot of NOS($200). A little fabrication and away you go:)

My only question is, when you had the motor apart for the rebuild, why didn't you port it?

You can gain a ton of power just with mild porting.

You can't expect to win races with a stock port, non-forced induction, non-juiced engine vs. boosted/blown engines twice your size.

Yes you're light, but you aren't *that* light.

These cars are state-of-the-art nineteen eighties N/A rotary technology.

Also, how much tuning/jetting have you done of the carb? Have you track tested it? dyno'd it? The last 10-15% of your horsepower comes from the tuning. If you just slapped that dellorto on and expected it to work, you're never going to truly be as fast as you can.

You're off to a good start. RB Header + Dellorto is good. What fuel system do you have backing it up? The stock pump won't do what your dellorto needs at the high end.

And if you want even 200 *flywheel* hp, you're going to have to port it.

If you want to lay down the smack, I'd say either large street port or half bridge, then turbo.

But before you do that, take some time to upgrade the fuel system and do some tuning!

Or at least learn *how*.

The base 4.6 is about 280 to the wheels.
Didn't you say he had a blower?
