I dont think the RB systems wear out with age/rust. Its all about how well the engine in front of it was running. If it was on a car that wasnt too lean or too rich id say its very valuable. Could sell it for at least 200 doll hairs imo, but thats nothing considering its an $1100 system today.

DreamInRotary 12-12-12 12:12 AM

If you're selling it please PM me, I'm extremely interested. First dibs and all that :biggrin:

Thanks,
Austin

i'm more curious about that ocean blue metallic 85 with the steel wheels...

seanrot 12-12-12 06:34 AM

Ocean blue with more rust than i want to deal with but good engine. Engine/tranny is getting moved to a rust free 84. 85 Body will be up for grabs once its stripped.

I paid $400.00 for a similar setup 2 years ago but it was in better shape (less rusty). I'd agree
with the $200.00 as is. If you strip the rust and repaint you could ask more but make sure you
let the buyer know its reconditioned somewhat.

Good to know when I'm looking next year.

mazdaverx713b 12-12-12 10:31 PM

well let me know when the body is up for grabs!

Getting that car titled was a huge PITA. I was in Toledo car was picked up in Dayton. PO signed the title. I went to DMV you need it notarized. Mailed it back to PO. PO notarized it and sent it back. DMV PO didn't sign in a certain spot. Mailed back to PO. Ohio has to be the most difficult state to change ownership. Bought a car in Illinois. DMV=SOS here. Just a signature needed....

ignore everyone else's pricing...its worth its weight in scrap metal!!!!! ill give you double that...start bid at $40 (ill pay shipping) :D

I bought an exhaust just as rusty as that one and used the electrolysis process. I put each of the exhaust components in a large bucket in your case large plastic tote, water, baking soda and a battery charger and left it over night on. Took all the rust away. Scrubbed the residue off and repainted it.... That exhaust to me is anywhere from $300-450 price range if you clean it....

I'd worry about water inside the presilencers. I had an RB center section that sat with water in it from a hood that was left off and water trickeled down through the carb for who knows how long. One presilencer was flooded. When I got it and took it for a drive, a great orange plume appeared. All the packing rusted away. :) The other presilencer shell was damaged from a driveshaft failure but the innards were ok.

I went ahead and repacked both and swapped in a new shell on both. This was to keep them sounding the same. The results were great!

These RB components, if treated right (like someone said above about the engine tuned right, no water ect), last forever. I even like the slant cut tips!!!

Clean it up and use it man, the BEST system for FB's period.

It doesn't hook up well to my turbo..... I'm making a 3" SS system off the turbo...

wankel=awesome 12-14-12 12:48 AM

I would find some way to adapt it. I love the sound! I would Y off the downpipe and use it just for that sound and the clearance and snug fitment it has. Not like its restrictive... or as restrictive as the exhaust gasses slamming into an impeller...

I agree. 3" will help spool, and after the turbine it's just best to let it dump into 3" all the way back. Who in their right mind would want to run a full or nearly full RB long primary on a turbo setup anyway? I guess a noob, maybe?

wankel=awesome 12-14-12 02:27 AM

Well it wasnt a serious venue, more of a goofy what-if bench racing situation, but I do appreciate being called a "noob", I guess.

seanrot 12-14-12 08:34 AM

Noob,

I love the sound when the wastegate opens.... Mine will not be routed back into the exhaust. You just hear the straight semi-unmuffled roar of a rotary!!! It's like it's about to start eating small children!!!!

Sorry couldn't help typing noob.

The open wastegate is cool..... at first but after a few years it gets old and the next build you will plumb it in
