Need help removing oil cooler!
I'm trying to get the bee hive oil cooler removed in order to replace the O-rings in my 83 gsl. I have the banjo bolt removed, and the two little nuts from underneath the oil cooler removed. But it still won't budge! Looking at the Haynes manual it doesn't seem like there is anything else to remove.
Am I missing something? Do these things require some major tugging in order to remove them? Any help would be appreciated! It's been an oil, dirty, frustrating day! |
Here's the 85 factory service manual. It should have a better description of what's needed to remove the beehive.

there is a 12mm bolt on the top of the engine holding it on. If your on the driver side of the car looking straight down at the cooler it would be "north", it might be hiding under a section of wiring harness (mine was) get out a really long extension (like severl extensions together) and a 12mm socket and take that fucker out. Its probably gonna be pretty tight. yes, this project is quite dirty and aggravating, believe me I was there. Good luck

I did mine in an hour including removing and replacing all the hard lines and hoses.. Wasn't all that hard. Unbolt and pull. :)

Thanks guys! I took a quick look at the factory manual, looked just "north" of the beehive, move the wiring harness out of the way, and there it was! (Albeit fairly well hidden under a bunch of dirt and grime.)
A minute later the thing was off. natew: You suck! ;) j/k Seriously though, if I ever had to do it again I might be able to do it in an hour or so (minus ALL the cleaning). Sometimes it's just having good help telling you where to look. |
