Need Feed Back. 85 GS. Good?

So im looking for a DD car. I loved my old GSL-SE I had. I miss the 1st gen. Came across a 1985 gs with the 12a. Has 147,xxx miles. My question is, are they good and reliable? Iv never owned a carb car before. Has a Racing Beat header, and Racing Beat muffler, RacingBeat Racing Idler Arm Assembly. OEM motor and trans. Only issue it has is semi rust on back bumber and he said the oil pressure gage has never worked. Hes owned it from 1993. Second owner. Asking price is 1,400. Do you think its worht it? Will it be good to dailydrive? Thanks!!!

The price sounds good. These are old cars and each one has to be inspected and evaluated in terms of it's value.

Oil has never worked? That's a bad sign. How can you go out and buy RB gear and not fix that.. I would be suspect of that.

Rust on the hatch? Happens when the drain holes get clogged.

RX7's require a lot of TLC so if you are looking for "reliable" daily driver I would say stick to something else. These are a more rare beast who like the pain of the wrench.

I actually have an 85 gs myself, (149 xxx kms). Also with a full RB exhaust and so far it has been a very reliable daily driver for me. Lots of fun too!

But the oil pressure gauge not working would definitely concern me. I would make sure to ask if the oil was checked regularly etc.

As for the bumper do you mean the metal piece under it in between it and the gas tank? If so I wouldn't be too concerned with that.

I think you should be able to get that price down a couple hundred, even more so with the broken gauge that is something that definitely needs attention.

79 engine in my 82, so no oil pressure gauge. Got one from autometer though.

Swapped the engine over into a car I knew very little previous history of, and once it ran, I test drove it 400 miles (Atlanta and back). Never gave me problems since, about 3k miles on it now, and I think 2 years of running.

Yeah the rust is on the bottom of the bumber. He said he changes the oild about every 3-4 months. Im going to go look at it today so may be I can see if hes just trying to sell a pos, or maybe not. lol

Just got back from looking at it, WOW! Glossy black paint, good tires, new alt, hardly any rust. Glass sunroof, factory wing. Going back over their tomorow with the wife to dicuss numbers. Only thing i was worried about was the oil press gage. It barly goes over 0 at idel the goes up a little bit with the rpms. Guy said its always been like the sence 1993 when he bought it. He was the 2nd owner.

these oil pressure guages are notoriously poor. Mine also used to read zero and i just cleaned off the contacts and stuff and then it worked fine.

Sounds like a good deal, as long as that rust isn't bad. If the car had oil pressure issues, then it would be dead. The fact that it still runs and, I assume, sounds good would indicate that the issue is just in the gauge or sensor. I'd go for it...

any pics of the GS that you are trying to get. Pictures gives us more thoughts about the car. The 12a is a good engine only sucky part is warming her up

So....I bought it. =) Tomorow when I get off work I will snap a few pics of it, but for now here are two of the pictures from the sales add.
