need edvise on starting engine without car

First a small background story about what i'm trying to do, might be boring for some, so feel free to skip to the question part at the bottom :P

Just before winter i bought an 86 FC N/A that had an uncompleted turbo swap started. Since I had an S4 engine siting around in my garage, i decided to just put an s4 engine into it, and keep the turbo one for later use. I though long and hard about what to do with the engine, and the only solution i could find was to swap it into my FB, as i do not want to put an s4 turbo into either of my S5s.
And now that almost all of my projects are coming to the end, i am starting my FB project. However at the same time i don't want to have to park my FB for a long time either. So what i was hoping for is to get the engine to run outside the car first. And when all the small things have been sorted out, just stick it into the FB with all the question being sorted out before hand. This way i can take my time to get the engine to run like i want, without major car downtime.

So my question is as follows.

This is more or less, straight forward job if we talk about a 12a, has anyone done this with 13b and could offer some advice as i do not wish to go in blind?
What components would i need either then, engine/trany, starter, fuel tank/pump, ecu with wiring, fan/radiator and ignition component?

p.s. I'm now in process of searching for the s4 ecu map, like what is available for s5, so if anyone has it, or know where to find it, please let me know.

I would just build a stand and fire it up with the tranny attached (mostly for the starter). Mount a radiator, bolt up the exhaust for the O2 sensors, etc.

Think about it the other way around. All the car is doing is providing a fancy place for the motor and accessories (such as coils and junk) to sit, power to the ECU/starter, and fuel to the motor. The rest is all chassis wiring and other junk basically.

Its fundamentally the same as a 12A, you only need to provide/hook up so much stuff. As for what all you need specifically, I cant really help unfortunately but I thought just trying to give you a different way to look at it might help a little.

Well that what i was actually hoping to do.

Just trying to figure out what are the minimum components i'm going to do need, so the ECU doesn't freak out on me, and refused to work.

I test fired an engine in my driveway once, supported on some blocks of wood. It only had an RB light steel flywheel (no clutch disc or p-plate), a bellhousing and a starter wth jumper cables to a battery and a hand held pistol-grip remote starter switch. It was an EFI engine so I made a carb adaptor and dropped in a distributor. Also a fuel pump was sucking from a gas can. :)

Oh and it had an open header. The neighbors really liked me that day.
