In need of advice. Pressure in cooling system.
 

Hello all...I am new to the forum as well as rotary engines...I have an 84 GSL SE with about 4500 miles on a new engine...according to receipts from the previous owner...well after we purchased the car I discovered some issues...first of all the heater core was blown and for a car with only 66,000 miles on it that's a little strange to me...second is the radiator had a moderate leak...nothing real serious but needed attention...and the most recent discovery was that after replacing the radiator and bypassing the heater core for the time being was that the water pump housing to block gasket is now leaking...not leaking more like gushing coolant everywhere so severe that the car stopped running due to the amount of moisture in the cap...not that this is a hard fix or anything...my question is why would all this be happening at once...is there someone combustion pressure can get into the cooling system as it does on a traditional internal combustion engine when the head gasket goes? I've read a great deal on rx7's now but have yet to come across anything like this...I'm confused as to what could be causing this...Coincidence? maybe but doesnt seem likely to me I fear something is wrong...Thanks for any advice in advance

Unfortunately when a coolant seal goes out the pressure build up finds the path of least resistance to escape through. Usually the radiator cap, intake manifold o rings, and water pump gaskets are first. After theyre all replaced the engine itself will be the weak point and begin to flood with coolant after shut down.

Thats what I was afraid I would hear...I guess all I can do now is see if maybe the company that rebuilt it last time will make it good

Yep, classic symptom of a bad inner water seal in the compression/power portion of the rotor's orbit.

Can also be caused by corrosion or a crack carving a channel from the combustion chamber under a seal (usually on a badly pitted end plate), but results are the same.

Anyone here have any experience with rx7 world out of Rockhill SC

They should be reputable. Ive heard of several people using them.

Any chance that the thermostat is just stuck closed? (hoping for the best) :)
