need 1985 GSL-SE clarification
So I have been looking for a rear end for a long time now and I just have a question
I have a 1985 GSL-SE (so I found a good rear end) but what were the differences between other models of that year. I mean I have been told there was a 5 lug axle, 4 lug (larger pattern) and a standard 4 lug. whats the deal and where do you find a 5 lug rear end??? let me know |
on a cinco letra sorry a gsl-se the only way to get the a 5 lug rear end is to do a big break kit that allows you to keep the 4 lug pattern or up-grade to the 5 lug bolt pattern...
Granny speed shop sells 8.8 and 9 inch rear ends with the gsl-se bolt pattern or the 5 lug second gen bolt patter... what you trying to do... |
REspeed has 5 lug axles to convert your rear end from 4 to 5 lug. Thats what I am doing as well as a big brake upgrade for the front.

no thats not what I am asking,
did the FB ever come from the factory with 5 lug??? if you look in www.car-part.com and do a search there are 5 lug axles listed. I am going to have my rear axles redrilled to 5x4.5 but I was just asking. |
No,there was never a 5 lug 1st gen.
The GSL-SE had a more common 4x114.3MM lug pattern and used standard studs and nuts instead of lug-bolts.The use of studs is the easiest way to ID an SE rearend. It also had bigger, vented rear disc brakes and the slightly lower 4.07:1 rearend ratios. The SE also had an LSD diff like the GSL cars, but it was set slightly less aggresive since the SE was more powerful and torquey. |
