My Stupid Mistake!!!

Its a nice regular New England day. light drizzle. Mother's day and all.. I figure if I take my rex out, I can quickly get some roses, burn some dounuts, get some beer, meet some girls, talk to some friends and get back before 4. I jsut have to back the car out the garage and get it warmed up. first thing.. car wouldn't start.. weird.. i figure its got to be the same vacum leak I have been getting since I bought the car. second thing.. I start to back up and leave the door open. CRUNCH went the door.(i was like F!) now in order to stop the movement of the car you would hit the ebreak or hit the break.. I am soo stupid.. I hit the gas. snap went the door.. I am not sure if its the hinges or the door itself.. its really F..ed up. I wonder what else is going to go wrong today.

Anyone got some hinges and a door for a 1985 Rex? preferably gray/blueish would be excellent. anyone?

vosko 05-08-05 02:59 PM

i have a good whole grey door but i'm in NJ

John64 05-08-05 03:15 PM

Does not sound good! Well at least you will close your door when you back out of the garage next time.

Kentetsu 05-08-05 03:29 PM

That sucks man! But, happy Mother's day...lol

Hopefully the damage is not all that bad. Even if you need to replace the entire door, it could always be worse. Just keep that in mind.

Just to cheer you up, how about this little story. Last year I was checking the transmission fluid level in my Mazda MPV. Of course, to do this you have to have the engine running. So here I am reaching under the hood for the dipstick when I hear a little click. Next thing I know the damn van is driving away from me in reverse (slipped out of park on its own). I ran like hell, and actually got my hand on the driver's door handle, but then I thought of all those news stories about stupid people getting run over by their own vehicles and decided that I would rather not make the front page in that manner.

It ended up going across the street, down a driveway until it started to turn, ended up clipping the corner off of a garage. It then continued across a backyard and broadsided another garage totally caving in the wall. All I can say is thank God I was insured! They didn't pay for the van, but at least I didn't have to buy two new garages....

So anyway, like I said, it can always be worse. Even in my case, at least it didn't hurt anybody when it ran away on me...:)

Ouch that sucks.

After a long tough day at work all you have to do is go online and view other peoples troubles
and it makes you laugh and forget yours!

LOL sorry to hear your bad luck.

The important thing is if it bent the door frame pillar. if it did you may need to take it to a body shop to get it fixed.

Glad to hear that you weren't injured in the process though.

ken

Oh kentetsu sorry about the monetary loss with yours, but beings that I absolutely abhor all minvans (especially ones driven by cell talking soccer moms) All I can say is "another one bites the dust" :p:

Hey man, I couldn't agree more! Although I have to admit, as far as minivans go that MPV rocked. It had the option of going into AWD, a very strong V6, seats 7 people comfortably, and would cruise very nicely at 90 on the freeway and still get 28 mpg. The only downside was that damned Ford auto tranny (nothing but trouble).

And yes, I too am very glad that it did not go into drive. I would have been crushed between it and my 71 GTO. And that would have sucked badly!

kenn_chan 05-09-05 06:23 AM

They also pump hairy butts!

and least one tried anyways, I was riding my bike out in town, and this (go figure) Y plated minvan decided to try and run me over, I was stradlin the hood for about 10 seconds for this lady decided to get off of here phone.....then she slammed on the brakes  my poor bike looked like one of those pieces of "art" that overly rich new yorkers buy, and I got tossed loke 30 + yards on asphalt. (fruucking cell phone talking soccer moms *&&!%^#)

thats why I can't stand them.

is your Goat the model that looked similir to the early mid 70's Transam with the shaker hood, or was it the longer catalina looking type?

Kenn

Kentetsu 05-09-05 07:44 AM

Yeah, from the front end it looked a lot like the TransAm. Sold it last year, what a money pit. It was in nice shape, and very strong (455), but if you drove it for two hours, you'd spend two days fixing shit on it (brakes, wheel bearings, etc.). It's like the damn things were designed to wear out fast. I don't miss it one bit! :)
