WOW! That's some massive carnage. I feel for you. I just hope 12A parts are easier to get in Australia then here. Good luck on the rebuild. Looks like an awsome ride :D

well the engine was between 5000 and 7000rpm at the point when the bolt went in... so that'd be how it went through so many times I imagine.. the revs dropped pretty damn quick once the seals had been taken out.. but plenty of revs there to keep turning it over...

Wow, how does that happend? Thats alot of marks!

i pulled the front rotor today. the centre plate is also gouged on the front face badly too.... and the front plate has some scrapes that i can catch my nail on tooo  :|
sooooo looks like i only have a few usable parts. front rotor, front housing, maybe front plate. i have a dial gauge on the way, and a micrometer so i can actually measure everything and see what is in spec. Front Plate - plug side http://stuff.pw.cx/front_plate_long_..._plug_side.jpg Front Plate - near intake port... looks like something has come in here too at some stage?? http://stuff.pw.cx/front_plate_intake_port_scratch.jpg Front Housing... after 2500km of use. Haven't cleaned it. http://stuff.pw.cx/front_housing_2500km.jpg Centre Plate Front Face - very odd scratch don't you think? http://stuff.pw.cx/center_plate_fron...rd_scratch.jpg Centre Plate Front Face - more scratching... http://stuff.pw.cx/center_plate_fron...scratching.jpg At this stage im not sure what to do.. i am thinking hmm scrap the whole lot and start again? In an ideal world where i had unlimited money id like to get next to new plates, nitrided, housings with a CERMET surface on them.. etc. etc. but it's not an ideal world ay..... So I guess once i have measured tolerances on the parts I have, I'll know what i need... zzzzzzz :wallbash: getting tired of not being able to drive my car............. |
that sucks to see! you have definitely put a lot of hard work into her. hope she sees the road again soon!

New engine block build finished!
Just finished assembling the main block today, still need to do engine externals but that will be absolutely simple compared to the internals :)
- full rotating assembly match and balance- front pulley to the pressure plate - rotor side clearancing - eshaft clearance check and surface finishing - dowell pin pressure plate to flywheel - new rotor and stat-gear bearings - oil bypass blockoff in front of eshaft I personally ported the plates to Pineapple EP1A (progress pic obviously not final): http://stuff.pw.cx/new%20housings%20...o%20farsml.jpg Block Assembly: http://stuff.pw.cx/enginebuild1.jpg http://stuff.pw.cx/enginebuild2.jpg http://stuff.pw.cx/enginebuild3.jpg Pretty exciting getting to this stage.. there was a lot of double and triple checking of everything before sealing it all in lol... crazy chaos, but got it all together in about 5 hours. Next little hiccup is my new flywheel bolts are too long and they touch the stat gear when bolted through the rear counterweight... Mega difficult NOT- ill cut those down! :D Love simple problems such as these ! ! ! I have only heard (and smelled) one rotary engine in the last 3 months, so I cant wait to get it in and turn it over :)... AND DRIVE ! ! ! |
Glad to see you back in the saddle. Seeing your progress makes me want to fish my 13B bridgeport. If only I had the funds :D

OK. All done! :)
http://stuff.pw.cx/engine%20in%20and...%20to%20go.jpg 1. Using ATF in clutch for time being until I can get new slave, master and hose... 2. Injector seals replaced as they leaked 3. Electrical issues = my Optima Yellow Top expensive ass battery is DEAD!!! WTF ANYWAY IT STARTED FIRST GO, AND RUNS GOOD ! ! ! !! :D :) First start video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I5w0esK18U Just needed a bit of a tune, then I went for a drive, and it's going well! Did about 100km today, and gave her a wash and vacuum!!! (Much needed, last one about 9 months ago) http://stuff.pw.cx/rxxx2.jpg Small exhaust leak to fix, suspecting its the lower intake manifold against that rectangular cutout not sealing well... |
congrats on getting her back!

forgot to update rx7club with the goings on... i got pulled over by a cop for no reason and he was a traffic unit cop, he went over the car, under the car, inside the car with his notepad and digital camera, sent a report to the EPA and then the EPA say I cant drive my car or sell it until I get a cert of compliance.
Basically I've had enough at this point, going to work out a way to sell the car, probably by putting a stock engine in.. get back as much $ as I can... keep my new engine which now has about 1200km on it or so.. and that is going to make its way into a FORD ECONOVAN hahahha :P Robs, not mine :P The problem is I am 100% happy with the way my car is setup, but the cops/EPA are not, so I am not wasting any of my precious time working on the car just so they are happy... time to move on I think, got plenty of other things to do, and other peoples rotors to tune with megasquirt ;) |
sucks to hear that

update. I have sold the RX7. It's sad but my bank balance is thanking me....
Was too much trouble for me to get it sorted out with the EPA - too busy to put the time in that it needs, so I have sold it to a guy with a workshop and hoists and it should be easy for him to work with.. He is going to use it on the race track which sounds good to me.. thats where I wanted the car to go, I just never got there. Certainly won't be my last rotary.. but now I know all the right ways of doing things which will certainly help for next time - pretty sure I made almost every mistake and learned from it in the process, so it has been a great car for my learning. Still quite into megasquirt and will be helping a mate tune his later this year :) I'm glad the car sold as it was sitting in the driveway, illegal to drive so was just annoying me. |
