have you replaced the O2 sensor?
right on. |
if it was only carbed....
j/k :) |
Worst case scenario, you can adjust the mixture. There is a screw over on the passenger side engine compartment wall. It is a small black housing with a screw in it. It has two letters, R and L. I will let you guess what they mean. Just be careful and not lean it out too much. The manual suggests that you don't touch it.

Not too sure about 7's (first EFI's), but on every other EFI there are 2 causes of richness. Either your O2 sensor is out or your mass flow sensor is out.
Air cleaner? You nitrogen and hydro's should go opposite. If your hydro's are high, then your nitro's should be low and vice versa. The first thing any real mechanic does that works smog is check your 02 sensor and air sensor. The 02 sensor tells the EFI how to mix (rich or lean) and the air sensor tells the EFI how much air is going in. The EFI then calculates and adjusts the fuel ratio to get the desired level. |

Test or replace the ACV (air control Valve). I'm betting 25 cents on it!

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...light=Emission The way I rigged up the air pump to the cats was by taking heater hose (it's roughly the same size) and running a peice from the air pump output to the inlet of the split air pipe. And as always do the usuals. Clean spark plugs Change the oil Take it for a 10-15mins high rev run before you get it tested to warm those cats up nice and hot (they work better) Hope this helps. |

I did it on my 85 GSL-SE. and right after the test, I put it back to the way it was supposed to be. Our cars run rich at idle, that's the way they are designed. I ran it for a day with the rigged up setup. The one cat got a little red from all the added oxygen, but it helped me pass! I had the exact same setup w/one of the cats being brand new, and my numbers where about double the limit and I even took the oil metering pump off to clean up the exhaust (the time I failed). So this little trick helped me pass and save a few bucks.
