Those really dont look bad at all. Mabe just the slightest bit rich. Nothing to go crazy abou though. The prongs are tan and thats what you want. But i see the electrode is a little sooty and black so thats why its a little rich but not too bad.

The plugs look about normal, maybe a little hot. Looks good none the less.

I do my plugs finger tight and about 1 1/2 turns with a wrench, or till just snug. You dont want to over tighten them!! that could be disasterous.

Yes, they do look just a tad on the hot side. Plugs used in rotaries normally have a little more dark color to them due to the oil injection.

Use anti-seize on the threads of the plugs before inserting.

From Felix's FAQ, plugs

"A Spark Plug Can Destroy a Rotor Housing - Rotor housings are mainly aluminum, while spark plug threads are steel. As a result, the same galling problem found with exhaust fasteners can occur with spark plugs. If one gets stuck, the only solution is overhaul, usually including a new rotor housing. Again, the solution is prevention, anti-sieze compound and correct installation torque, both of which are explicitly stated in Mazda shop manuals. Due to the anti-seize and low recommended installation torque, a torque wrench is not essential, just recommended. If you don't have torque wrench access, use a 3/8" drive "stub" (short-handled) ratchet and simply snug each plug with your thumb and two finger tips."

Thats what my old plugs looked like. Pretty normal. Be sure to use anti sieze as inittab says.

RotorMotorDriver 10-29-02 10:09 PM

I think the manual says 12 ft/lbs...Or something like that...And as stated, use anti-sieze.

Your plugs are fine, mine come out like that too.

LongDuck 10-30-02 10:50 AM

Mine looked just like that - I think you're fine. BTW, 84SE, 13B-RE-EGI, and NGK BR8EQ-14's... HTH,
