My headlights go out when I put on the high beams.

This only happens when I push the lever forward. When I pull it back for temporary high beams, it works fine. So, the question is: Can anyone think of anything other than the switch that might be bad? Also, can you take the switch apart and clean contacts, etc. I guess, more to the point, will it go back together?

My car is the same way. I only use the high beams to flash at people; so it doesn't really bother me.

I have the exact same problem. I'm on my second switch (it was a used switch) and the same thing still occurs. I dont need my highbeams but it would be nice if every thing worked.

I had one that did this. Then when put back on low they sometimes would not come back on.

I quite using high beams and sold the car.

lol, this same exact problem is happening to me. Was this a recall on these cars?? I had Autozone price out a switch and it came $100 for the hi/low beam switch :(. Anyone else have this problem and found a suitable solution??

I have the same problem. There was a write up on this a few weeks ago that described cleaning the switch with electronics cleaner. I cant remember if you are supposed to take the switch apart to clean it.

I had the same problem with my last car, a 90' miata, and just ended up replacing the switch.

i have this problem on my car as well, i just switched the wires in the harness so its my high beams that are on all the time, when i need to pass or have oncoming traffic i just pull back on the flash to pass part of the switch and i have instant low beams until i let go.

The combination switch for the GSL is over $100 at Victoria British, but you can pick up a used one from a wrecking yard for peanuts. The one I swapped in two years ago outlasted the car.

wait i never knew this wasnt supposed to happen.... hahaha. made sense too... ur not supposed to havbe ur brights on in fog. but my quick and easy fix was jsut getting new, better looking fog lights and wired them by themselves. worked for me :) . now i got some ricer fog lights that have a 7 color LED light installed in them so wen i dont have the main part on i can choose a color for them to glow. . . . i think theryre pretty cool and im *&% anti-ricer. hahahaha

I have removed, disassembled and cleaned several combo switches. Here are a few labeled pics.
