my engine swap
well this whole thing has been haphazard and experimental.
i found a carb'd 13B in a parts car that i bought that also had headers and a straight-through 2.5" exhaust so i thought fuck it, thats goin in my SA. i preceeded to pull both engines with a forklift and then when i got all the relevant parts bolted on to the 13B ready to put in i got it within 6" of the engine mounts and then realised i couldnt physically push it any further. the other car had no bumper so it was easy to pull, so im stuck with the donk sitting on the cross member until i can borrow one with longer forks. DOH. but anyway, its been a fun experience and i shall add photos etc once i get it done tomorrow. |
a forklift???? for an engine?????

You can slot your engine mount to make the engine fit, no need to worry about crossmembers.

heh yeah the forklift is great, also use it to move the car.
when pulling the engine out you need one person standing at the engine bay though, to make sure it comes out straight and doesnt snag on anything. i tore an oil line on the first go doing it by myself, DOH. |
i have an engine hoist. works wonders for me...... your forklift way would work as well though. a lot of stopping and positioning would cause the forklift operator to go nuts. i would just figure you'd have more control over the actual hoist than the forklift.
|
nah, its fairly simple, just have one guy looking in the engine bay and telling you what movements to make (back/up etc) and just do it slowly. got the engine in in 5 minutes.
|
i'm amazed. thats pretty cool. if i were ever in need of pulling an engine and didnt have a hoist or mine were on loan, i now know i could use a forklift!!
