I've been saying that I would get these posted for a while now.
So here they are.
I removed the 2nd gen powersteering pump because I am painting and re-wiring the entire engine bay.

The balck color is just a high temp base for a gloss high temp black.
All of the back paint that is on the brown will be painted over with a color match brown paint.

oh yeah anf the lines in my radiator are from not paying attention with the power washer on pencil tip setting:(

I've never seen anyone paint the engine while its still in the car. kinda interested on how its going to come out. I'd bet masking is a pain in the ass though.

what's the radiator from? a 2nd gen? i should upgrade my stocky :(

yeah rad is from a 2nd gen

I think the bay will turn out nice, give me a week or so and it should be all done.

Is everything going to be that flat black color?

it will start chipping off from the heat, vibrations, n other chemicals that u use when u work on the car. like a carb cleaner. i thinks ull regret doing that...

What about all the extra heat the 2-3 layers of paint are going to hold in?

People don't paint rotory engins for a reason...

Stock engines are painted also. The iron atleast, no point in painting aluminum at all. I kinda chuckled out loud from the part i read with the pressure washer.

Sure and its actully 2 layers of paint, both ultra high temp, the gloss coat is not the stuff u get at your local auto parts store.

As you can see from the pictures there is not a radiator fan, with in the increase in tempature from the weather I was able to get the temp gauge 3/4 way to red hot.

I was trying to get all the left over mmo and sea foam out of my engine and exhaust system.

In the process the engine got pretty damn hot, I also got a bunch of mmo and sea foam on the engine.

Oh yes did I mention this was all before the pictures where taken ?

yeah no chipping, bubbling, cracking, etc...

I see people paint their rotarys all the time with NON high temp engine paint.

In fact most rebuilds are painted, what do you think atkins dies one rotor black and the other silver ?

and from what I know they DONT make high temp silver paint.

Sorry bub, but they make alot of colors in high temp paint. Pretty much any basic color including silver I have used or handled in high temp. I used a hi temp aluminum on alot of parts and it comes out sick looking and dries fast. I couldnt chip the shit if I had a sledge hammer to it while heated up.

lol....it's gotta be killing you when it's obvious you spend some time trying to detail the engine bay then THAT happens...

Go to the Eastwood site for the latest in high temp paints from falt to gloss in silver or black...

Yeah I didnt even notice I did it, a friend pointed it out a little after I was done.
Water was flying everywhere so....

But I think once I get the biggest fan that will fit on there installed it will be ok.
I was dame tempted to paint the fins flat black on the rad but I dont want to hamper the cooling.

I also thought of doing SRE on the rad in flat black but now that the rad looks like crap I guess that ones out the window as well.

I guess if I get really really bored I can bend them back one by one.


as far as the high temp paint I was just trying to make a point to the person that said im with stupid to iotus and the other NoOb.

BTW day 2 is done on the engine bay and although far from picture perfect ( not what I intended from the get) its looks 200% better then before.

So far I am extremely happy with the way its turning out.

I just need to pick up a couple more rolls of split loom and build by proto type bolt in DLIDFIS system and Im all set........... ok so I need an E-fan also and I have to finish the 2nd gen power steering conversion.

will post more pics after day 3 on it, possibly tommorrow

Besides are you on my side or the "They dont paint rotary's for a reason" side anyway ?

Like I said, they paint the side housings, not the rotor housings. They polish them usually.

You can go to any place that sells air conditioning equipment they sell fin straightners like a little comb wont make it perfect but will help alot.

Atkins has some of their rotor housings powdercoated. Now i'm no expert, but most powdercoats are BAKED at 400 degrees, that means much higher and they'd start messing up.

My buddy jim shelden has TWO powdercoated chrome engines, SHOW engines. One on his rx2 and one on his REPU. Those are fast vehicles let me tell you.

Also, high temp paint aint that hard to find, i bought some 1200 degree mexi chrome and flat black at the local parts store. Now i just need to get some clearcoat so the stuff dont rub off on my hands hehe ;-)

I found some High Temp clear coat at the auto parts store by the paint.
I think it was made by dupli-color

better add some brake fluid.. it does look wierd..
