My 85 GSL has 2 inline fuel filters?
 

Slowly ironing out the problems on this bad boy. Went to replace the inline fuel filter in front of the gas tank and found another one about 1 foot away. I just replaced the one, (the second one). Is this normal? Anyway, Car is a pain to start when cold. Fine after it warms up. As far as I know the choke works, let's assume it does. What could this be? Replaced: Fuel filter, cap and rotor, plug wires, and checked timing-ok.

Have not done a complete check on vacuum lines yet.

Put some good gas in her.

Problem starting in the cold? You don't by chance have an Rx-7 do you:)

First of all, its not "normal" if you mean stock, but it is common to add another filter, as long as it doesnt mess with the flow too much.. I personally run a cheapy in line glass filter under the hood between the firwall and the carb just to visually see the fuel, see how much is flowing, how dirty it is and what not. I had only put it in there fort those reasons originally, but now that Ive had it in there, I can actually see drap its stopping on the element :). Anyway, I would replace both filters and see if that helps with anything....

I put 2 inline filters on my car,
One between the tank and fuel pump,
and another before the FPR,on the firewall.

Is there an optional engine block heater for the rotary or do I have to make my own?

You can get a heater that circulates coolant and keeps it warm when ever you plug it in. They are generic. I'm not sure about the ones that heat oil, may be more fabrication involved in getting that to work.

Candle under the oil pan maybe :) LOL

The '83 engine I got for my car has a block heater in it.. I dunno if it works... they put it around one of the spark plug holes if I'm correct... I took it off as soon as I got the engine...

Oh, by the way, 80Project - you know that you have to pull the choke lever out to activate the choke, right? Dumb question, I know... but you'd be surprised how many people don't know that thing's there, and think it has an automatic choke....

The "patch" heaters could be the simplest! I do have a block heater (fits in a core plug) in one of my (winter) cars, does work well using a timer to turn it on a couple of hours before I get up in the morning. BUT, don't forget to unplug it in your rush to get to work. Not that I have (humor) ever done that.
