Muffler suggestions? Got bent over by noise police

I got a ticket and harrassed for the "excessive noise" of my exhaust system, so I need suggestions on how to tame down the noise with minimal blockage of airflow.

I got a, RB header, stainless pre, and a stainless muffler; everything is the straight through design. (for now)

I would appreciate any suggestions for a more mellow sounding muffler options that'll drop me several tailpipe dB's

thanks for any input.

Just did my exhaust and it's the quietest it's ever been but I still don't think that it would ever meet the standards by the police.

I have a header which joins with a long bullen resonator, then to a cat, and then to my muffler.

If you have to go for an inspection by the police, what I'd do in your case is remove your entire performance exhaust (temporarly, till the inspection is over) put your old reactor back on, cause that alone drops the sound plenty. Then just get a cheap muffler place to make the rest of the piping with a cheap resonator, and a cheap cat, and a scrap yard muffler off a rx7 (stock). This might cost you about 300 bucks but it's the only way to get results. No performance mufflers are quiet, Unless you get those tunable mufflers with the restricter insert. For example the X-TEC muffler, very expensive though, think about $400-600 range. Check companies like 5ZIGEN, TANABE, ETC.

Cause really you'll end up spending money on your nice setup and not getting the results you need.

get a supertrapp or something and put in a ton of disks to do the inspection

I had a friend that switched his shit out when he went in for an inspection about a week ago and they charged him with the ticket anyway because they knew he switched stuff. His car was TOO quiet. If you make it too quiet, then the cop would have no reason whatsoever to pull you over. You have to show that your exhaust may be loud, but not so loud that its illegal. If you amke it normal, theyll know that you switched shit out.

umm.... that's not right.... He shoulda contested that, in every case I've heard off via friends and whatnot, they either "fixes" the exhaust because it was too loud or "got a new one" because the old one was "falling apart" or "had holes" and was too loud. Silly buddy you've got there ;) shoulda acted on that one.

Usually after getting a ticket for excessive noise in canada the police sometimes demand you have the problem fixed and they want to hear the difference.

swap then later swap back, no sense in ruining GT1's nice exhaust set-up

Too quiet? I've never heard of that.

too quiet??? :wtf: i guess that just goes to show you that cop-retardedness is universal!!!

GT1 ~

exactly what kind of muffler do you have on the car? what brand? what size? what size pipes on the system?
the simplest thing that i can think of that you can do quiet it down would be to just another flanged muffler/presilencer under the car, so that you add/remove it whenever you need to. the thicker the walls on that thing, the better!

i don't know the laws in Canada, so i don't know if that will be a problem or not. i remember YEARS ago when i used to run my full Rotary Engineering exhaust, it had 3 mufflers and sounded fine.

The pre and muffler are from a company called Marcour/Genie, its pretty reasonably priced full stainless, and packed with steel wool. It has resisted 3 years without burning out, but unfortunatly because of the straight through design it is very loud. (about equal loudness to my friends GSXR750 at full throttle)

The ticket was given along with one for wreckless driving, and the *$#@n cop gave me the 30 days to come in with a system that meets local noise restrictions, or they will take "further action".

I was considering another presilencer, or possibly switching to a RB powerpulse muffler, which I read aren't too loud. Hopefully that does the trick??

thanks for the input

well, i never realized that you were considering the RB muffler as an option ...

dude, get it! you will NOT regret it!!!

Genie? don't they make exhausts for VW's?

peace and good luck fightin' da man!!!!
