MPG AVerage
What kind ofmilage do you get? and how to get it????? Thanks Bob
On my set up (see my sig below), I average about 17 - 19 mpg...... and top out at 22mpg on the highway.
When mine was a completely stock 12a I could get 26-27 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 65.
Now on the highway with the weber I avg 18 mpg. |
Average over the last two summers: 17.188mpg. 2009 Average: 18.414mpg. 2010 Average: 14.710 mpg. I get it by driving the piss out of my car and running super sticky tires.
I have gotten 28mpg on the highway before, but that was running on stock sized/wear rate tires at 78mpg drafting off of a 2001 Impala. Lowest I've recorded was 11.332 mpg. That tank was when I was busting ass into Ann Arbor after my girlfriend had a mini-stroke. |
My average around town is 10-11 MPG. :(
But it makes up for it when I press the go pedal. :) |
The SA would do 22-23 with a high of 25
The 12a fb's seem to only do 20-22 The gal-se's will do 20-22 also but freeway will get like 26 That's been my experience with the 15 or so cars I've had over the years I don't do anything special either, most of these are just stock with a fresh tuneup. Sometimes an RB exhaust |
15-22mpg on my 12a when it was stock, 8-20mpg with my old blowthrough turbo setups, usually around 10-12mpg with how I drive...
non-mod se will get around 20 around town with mixed driving habits and 25/26 hwy at 65-70.
17 city, 23 highway with the mods in my signature and the highway is cruising at
about 80 mph. If I stay around 65 on the highway its about 25 mpg but who does that  |
i get around 13-16 depending on the amount of throttle blade angle. which is anywhere between 60 degrees to full vertical.
Been many threads on this already, but minor porty and exhausty mostly stock GSL-SE here, and I'm usually getting 14-16 mapegeh mixed city-highway with mild aggression. Not a very flat city, though, so a lot of climbing probably contributes. I'm struggling to get over 30 mapegeh in my baseline Accent, and that one I drive gently like a dove.
When I was daily driving at 30 miles a day and about 1/2 of it highway, I was getting about 16. Only time I ever took it on a highway for more than a quick trek across town was a trip up to Austin for a meet and got around 18-20. Lowest I've ever gotten was about 10.
My multi-decade long term mixed driving average has always been between 20-21, full stock emissions, about 60-40% biased city. That's across three engines, same carb.
SA intake, header, good tune up. 12a FB gets about 16-18 city and 22hwy. Daily driving with a redline a day. :O)
I get 12-16 mostly city in my GS. 12 miles from the freeway, lol. Drove to Montana for two years in my GSL-SE and got 22 MPG, almost entirely freeway. I can't understand how guys average anything above 18, I've owned three of these and best i've averaged is 17. I've also found driving like a Grandma makes almost no difference for me, but it's different for everyone.
84 GSL-SE - header/free flow exhaust, K&N filter - 19-22 average. Managed 31 MPG on highway with cruise set at 70
I got 200 miles from a full tank of gas last trip. What's my mpg?

ran it until it was out of gas. Normally gas mileage is determined by noting the miles traveled and the amount of gas need at the next fillup. Also, always fill at the same station, at the same pump and top it up in the same manner. |
Fuel mileage?..... What's that?
I was getting 25-26 but took my smog off and I am getting 22 hwy or 18-19 city
I probably get about 16mpg or so out of my -SE. That's with no emissions and racing header. Runs rich.
ha! I get 10 Laps at 1.33mi each for 15gal of fuel!
1.125mpg  almost Gallons per mile! I guess that's what 5600cc's of injectors will do! :egrin: |
25 mpg on stock intake and carb, the only thing is i did polish the air tunnel to a fine finish so delivery is smooth.
i see about 15mpg overall from my SE. mostly city driving and full throttle at least once per drive.

in fact the SA got better mileage between 3500-4000rpms than it did between 2500-3500rpms, which means it gets better mileage in 5th gear @80mph than it does @65.... |
