Timing problem
I hope someone has had this problem and knows how to fix it? I put the timing light on the engine and the lead plug is at 20 degrees advanced (this is a bridgeported engine with tuned header and 48 mm Weber) the trailing plug is 50 or more degrees advanced. It should be 15 degrees but it so far off that it can't be set. I have something wrong and being new to these rotarys I could use some pointers.

Stock ignition no vacuum advance.I don't know why the trailing plug would be way more advance when it should be close to the 20 degrees that the lead plug is. I want to set the trailing plug at 15 degrees.No way can it be set the way it is now.

first thought is that you have the leading and trailing ignitors or coils mixed up somewhere

Okay I put a different distributor in. This is a full on race car so I pull the engine often so I have the all the wires marked so I don’t have that problem if I have to swap an engine quickly. After swapping distributor I set it at 10* at ideal and it runs 20* at 3500 RPM. I was able to set the trailing plug o* at ideal and 10* at 3500 RPM. Never did find out what was wrong but I tossed the other distributor.

I wish I had the exact problem so I could share it. but it is working great now. I drained the water out and put the car in my race trailer for the winter. It snows up here in the mountains of California a lot. I will take it out this spring and will be racing it at Thunderhill raceway in Willows Ca a 3.1 mile road course and at Buttonwillow raceway. I race in NCRCthey have a trackday events and they have a full on race group ARC and thats thegroup I run in.
