Motor built AGAIN!!!

Well 2 weeks ago at a tuning session, after completing my FI/Microtech install , my motor decided she didn't like the power output my tuner and I were setting for her...sssoooo SHE decides to crack the front plate on the Dyno:icon_no2:.(only 2K miles since rebuild)
I had the motor/tranny pulled by the next day and started her on the road to recovery. She has now been PINNED so that she won't blow her temper again...
Everything is back together and should be dropped in by weeks end. Here are just a few shots of the new color scheme I decided to go with. Originally, I had the motor in silver/gunmetal but decided to change it for better luck:lol:.

Wow, that's the first I've heard of a motor cracking a front plate. What kind of power were you putting down when this happened?

Best of luck with the new rebuild. :)

Hey Ken,
It was the 1st I ever heard of a front plate cracking as well BUT my tuner said it happens when you take an S4 TII motor past 400HP when it's NOT pinned..
I talked to a few guys locally and they all confirmed that it happens on S4 motors all the time...

Needless to say, I now have the new plates pinned and we will be going back to the Dyno real soon for retuning.

As for the HP... All I can say at this point is that it made well OVER 400 to the wheels on a Dynamics Dyno.... And we still have more left in her...

S4 motors are notorious for cracking plates.

G'luck with the new tune.

No pics on the pinning process...?

NO... I paid my tuner (Alex Lopez from Lopez Racing) to do it since I haven't done it before....

BUT.... I now know what he did soooooo it will be my next experiment.

Nice color combo. I have the same on my motor. :)

Blowing a motor is no fun. But it is good to see you are back on track again.

Awesome:icon_tup: Redline?

I have to disagree with that....it should be all turbo motors without the right stud kit (exception is the cosmo)

It is unusual to crack a front plate. It's usually the s4 to mid s5 rear plates that crack. The later S5 rear irons have more iron around the upper right dowel and oil filter mount. Since the front iron cracked, I would have the front injectors checked before putting the new engine on the dyno. There have been a rash of bad brand new, underperforming injectors, particularly from Venom.

Injectors were cleaned and checked prior to install.
Again... I never heard about plates cracking BUT my tuner's 1st question before tuning the new setup was if I had the motor pinned.. once I said NO he was reluctant to keep pushing BUT at my persistance to see 450HP at the wheels, I got the outcome he was expecting...

YES... from several Rotary addicts around here... S4 TII motors DO crack front plates when making high HP numbers WITHOUT being pinned...
