More steering woes. Went off road and into a Wachovia front lawn

I think my steering lock problem may be something in the column. It only locks turning right. I was trying to limp it back to my office this afternoon when I was taking a right turn and the wheel locked....sending me over the 6 inch curb and into a Wachovia bank front lawn.

I just put on a new steering wheel and I've never had this problem before. Is there anything I could have messed up in the column? Or any other ideas.

I remember on my hub there are two tabs that spring into place. Does you steering wheel hub have them?

Hmmm...I don't know. I keep the car at my office. I'll check when I get there.

Yeah, I put on a new steering wheel. But now when I take a slow right hand turn the wheel gets stuck???? It's feels like the same kind of lock like when the car is off and youturn the wheel and it locks until you crank the car again. Geez, if that made any sense.

I can't find the link right now, but I read the instructions on how to drill out the steering lock (removal required for certain racing classes). It sounded really simple, wish I could find it for you. Of course, that's assuming that the lock itself is the issue. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow....No idea where I'm goign to get the tools for it though. I was hoping to have the car ready to autocross by the end of this week, but it's looking grim.

Something else is binding, not the lock. Unless its a coincidence. Try putting the other wheel back on and see what happens.
